Fortunately I only read the reviews after I had booked. Was a little concerned in view of some of the bad reviews, but in fact the Pez Azul is brilliant, especially in view of the price. The staff without exception are extremely friendly and helpful. I hadn't realized I'd booked a "low cost" single accommodation, but in fact my accommodation was very spacious with twin beds joined together. I was on the groundfloor and my terrace was surrounded by a garden with tropical plants (and I had view of the Teide). I experienced none of the problems mentioned in some of the negative reviews. The location is super, both for transport: the bus from the airport stops almost outside the Pez Azul . It's a pleasant walk down into town (a bit of a climb on the way back, but if you have walking difficulties, the taxis in Tenerife are very cheap). You can walk to the beautiful Taoro Park (via Calle Belgica it's shorter) and don't miss the "Jardin de las Orchideas" of Agatha Christie fame , which is a 5 minutes walk from the Pez Azul (Sitio Litre). Closes at 2 pm. What I appreciated most is that, unlike so many places in Spain and especially Tenerife, the Pez Azul doesn't play loud music . If, like me, you want peace and quiet, I would suggest ground-floor, away from the swimming pool. The weather in Puerto is nice all year round: although I went in October, I was able to have a swim in the outdoor pool (the weather was brilliant!) Re. the cockroaches mentioned by some: this is part and parcel of a tropical climate BUT here's the trick: keep the bath and bidet outlet plugged and put a few bayleaves in a small dish: bay is supposed to repel the critters. (The accommodation was clean and I didn't meet any insects!) As someone who previously lived in Puerto de la Cruz for several years and also stayed in hotels most of the year during my tour leader's career, I can honestly say that the Pez Azul is a great choice and gives more than good value for money.

Actually very good. Cheap and pretty close to the centre, probably 10 min of walking. The shower is a bit unsteady but who cares. Didn't see many cockroaches, but it seems to be an issue in puerto cruz in general. It's a simple hotel for a simple price.

My boyfriend and I were on our first holiday together. We would be staying at Pez Azul for 11 days. We arrived on the 29th of July. Entering the hotel was nice. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We quickly got to go to our room. When we got our first room, we were welcomed by a weird smell. We searched the room for an ashtray or something that could cause this smell. Eventually we opened the window, in hopes the smell would get better. We went to the city centre, which was like a 5 minute walk from the hotel. This was lovely. I noticed that when we got back from the city centre, my nose was stuffed, I had a persistent cough and experienced difficulty breathing. My boyfriend had the same symptoms the day after. Walking up the stairs became an inconvenience, where he ran out of breath easily. This is raised questions, as he is an athlete. However, the second night, my boyfriend took a shower. He noticed black mold on the ventilation shafts and on the ceiling in the bathroom. This immediately explained the smell in the room. We checked the rest of the room, where we also found spots of black mold. The black mold was everywhere in the bathroom and even above our bed. Of course we wanted to leave this room as soon as possible. We went to the reception and explained the situation. Staff helped us out immediately. That night we slept in an other room. Entering that room, the smell was better. We checked this room on black mold too. Turned out that in this room, the ventilation shafts contained black mold as well. It was a lot less compared to our old room, but since the black mold was in the ventilation shafts, this probably meant it was through out the whole hotel. The next morning we went to the reception again. We yet got another room. In this room, the assumption was confirmed again. We checked the room. The smell was very good, except the black mold was still in the ventilation shafts. We did see that the cleaners probably tried to clean the shafts, but it was still in there. The shafts are directly above the shower, so when you take a shower, it’s a matter of time when the mold grows back. Note that all three rooms were on different floors. Also note that the pictures we took, are over 3 rooms. Bottom line: the service was great. The staff really tried to help us and offer us a solution. However the problem is through out the whole hotel. This caused us to eventually switch to an Airbnb in the neighborhood. We did get a refund of the nights we didn’t use the hotel. We really hope the hotel owner is going to contact an experienced mold cleaning service as the situation now provokes serious health risks, especially to people with sensitive airways or conditions like asthma. It’s a pity that a hotel with such great staff and great location is practically impossible to enjoy purely because of this problem. Please fix this!

My initial room had bed bugs that I didn't notice for a week. I had to go to the reception 3 times to get a new room. The next room they gave me had bed bugs too. I got a third room that didn't have bedbugs yet. The way the staff dealt with it was very unprofessional. No terminator was ever seen. The next evening I was walking to the hotel I saw lights in my first room with the infestation which means there was a new person there. I think that the hotel doesn't care about the bugs or the clients. Also the overall cleanliness in the hotel wasn't very good outside of the critters. Never visit them is my advice.

Ok. Apartments were basic but functional.. we asked for a toaster and a kettle as our room had none and they were delivered by housekeeping that day.. aircon is fab.. 20 euros deposit which you get back when you leave.. rooms freshened every day and beds made.. towels freshens up twice or three times in the week.. we were on fourth floor so sun loungers on balcony as well as table and chairs and glass front which got the sun all day.. the pool bar man is an absolute legend.. he is very good at his job and the hotels best asset!! The hotel is mainly geared for Spanish but all staff seemed to speak good English and were very helpful.. not too far from town but very hilly.. taxi back is no more than 5 euro.. only criticism is the fact that for the whole week the pool itself was never cleaned. The outside area was brushed in mornings but never deep washed so it was very grubby.. sun loungers had comfortable pads but they were never washed either.. our room had a pool view so we were able to see the “cleaning” process..this worried me as birds washed in the pool and we also caught a rat drinking from it one morning after 8am. also cracked tiles and uneven tiling around the pool.. steps at deep end were very shaky and loose.. but all round a good solid spot for self catering holiday..

The hotel itself is run down and in need of a makeover. Very little interaction with staff however when the return transfer bus did not show to pick us up (from a bus stop some way from the hotel), the staff were unhelpful and had a taxi on standby to take us to the airport for over 120 euros. It would appear that this is a regular occurrence for this hotel. I would urge anyone using this hotel - do not add transfer services for your return journey to the airport. I have had no evidence or feedback to suggest anything other than this is a money making scam on behalf of the hotel.

Happy to write that this hotel far exceeded some of the other reviews. It was not without fault- when we arrived the receptionist was lovely, but our room smelt as people had smoked there and covered the smoke alarm. We returned to reception who quickly upgraded us and we keen to help. The room we were transferred to had comfortable beds and air conditioning The pool outside is far bigger than the photos suggest, my daughter and I had a great time as my wife relaxed by the pool bar. The barman they hired was also very friendly and helpful We had half board and I've stayed in many places with inclusive food. The food was fresh every day with a great selection. I don't know what people are complaining about but compared to some places I have stayed, at Pez Azul the food was fresh, varied and interesting. The reception also helpfully sells 5L bottled water for a good price, saving any hassle of going out to buy it. We would stay here again.

We stayed at the Pez Azul Apartments first week of September, just got back last night. I don’t do reviews but felt in this occasion, I had to. We celebrated our 25th anniversary here, I send an email asking for a nice room, to our surprise, we got the top floors overlooking the sea & volcano. On our arrival, we were greeted by the friendliest of receptionist who couldn’t be more helpful all times, ( apologies, I cannot remember your name, I hope you know who you are. We opened our room door to be surprised with a ice chiller bottle of wine (what a nice touch) We needed help on 2 or 3 occasions, the lovely lady at reception could not help enough…….always. Food - em, it was okay, not the biggest of selection, food hot, cold buffet was also okay. Big disappointment was that the busier the hotel got, the more watered down juice, milk and fresh yoghurt got, not the staffs fault, obviously management. To management, STOP watering things down, what…..to save a few euros on your reputation? This is not the staffs fault, this practice puts the staff in awkward positions. Staff - from the housekeeping staff to the bar staff &, technicians, all were outstanding. Remember, the hotel is 3 stars after all, our week was very reasonably priced. Rooms serviced daily, cleaned, etc. We had a lovely relaxing time at the Pez Azul and would most probably go back. I reiterate to management - STOP watering things down. Overall, enjoyed our week.
