We recently spent five nights at this apartment-hotel resort and, unfortunately, it didn’t quite meet the expectations we had based on its 4-star rating. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by a strong smell of damp and mould in the room, which lingered throughout our stay despite keeping the fans running at all times. The cupboards also had a musty odour that made it unpleasant to store anything inside. These issues made the space feel less fresh and inviting than we had hoped. The facilities were fairly standard, though we were surprised and disappointed to learn that no room service would be provided for the entire duration of our stay. While we understand that service levels vary, this felt below par for a property advertised at this level, especially when compared to other 4-star accommodations we’ve experienced in Australia. One important aspect to note is that this apartment-hotel is not particularly accessible. All the family rooms are located on the top (second) floor and can only be reached by stairs, as there is no elevator on the property. This was quite challenging for us, especially as we were travelling with a disabled family member and had to carry all of our luggage up and down multiple flights. Additionally, the window leading onto the balcony in our room would not lock, which raised some safety concerns, particularly as we were staying with children. These issues made our stay more difficult than anticipated and are worth considering for those with mobility needs or safety concerns. One of the biggest letdowns, however, was the interaction with the host. Initially, she seemed welcoming, but that changed when we asked for local recommendations. As first-time visitors to the area and country, we had a few questions about transport and nearby attractions. Rather than receiving helpful suggestions, we were met with dismissive comments and discouragement. She advised us several times to cancel our plans, saying transport would be very difficult to find — yet Ubers were readily available and arrived within minutes. Unfortunately, her responses came across as unnecessarily negative and condescending, making us feel uncomfortable about asking for basic guidance. It’s a shame, as the location itself is beautiful and has a lot to offer. With some improvements to the accommodation’s upkeep and a more hospitable approach from the host, this could have been a much more enjoyable and memorable experience.
