This resort would have been amazing in 2000…. It’s just tired and grotty now which is such a shame. It definitely doesn’t feel like a 5 star establishment. We booked a swim-out 2 bedroom apartment (#128) through the Boutique Collection who manage the property off-site. Our dealing with them was adequate however their cleaning crew need more training or more time to clean. The entire apartment felt tired and like it needed a good scrub. The bed linen was nice, but the towels were basic. We prefer a firm mattress so were very pleased with the king bed. There was nothing luxurious about the bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen or decor - they appeared 3 star at best. It’s definitely time for a refurb in this one. The direct pool access was awesome, and something we looked forward to having twin six year olds. However, the water in the main pool was so cold (we were there in August) that our kids preferred the toddler pool (which was slightly warmer) on the other side of the property, which defeated the purpose of having a swim-out. Why do they not heat their main feature in the cooler months? The resort was packed yet the pool was empty & anyone actually wanting to swim was crammed into a tiny 2m x 2m spa with kids jumping in and out - such a waste of an amazing pool/lagoon layout. The restaurant was fully booked our entire stay so we can’t comment on that. We self catered a few nights and the kitchen is very, very basic. It would be nice for someone to sharpen the kitchen knives once in a while! The pool bar was not bad for lunch, we quite enjoyed our meals although spending $170 for 2 kids meals, 2 adult meals and a few drinks and given wooden cutlery felt pretty basic. The architecture, layout, gardens and pools were beautiful, and that’s what sold us on the property. But we definitely felt short changed with our apartment and it’s lacklustre decor and maintenance. We were close to the restaurant and so had to endure their music all day if sitting outside. Oh boy, who is choosing the tunes? Surely they could spend a little extra and subscribe to a music mix that doesn’t sound like elevator music. It was really quite laughable in the end - how can management think that music suits the venue?! We wouldn’t choose to stay here again unless they updated the rooms and heated the pool in winter. Such a shame, I’m sure it was lovely 20 years ago.
