The Bay Lodge

Our last visit to the Bay Lodge was just before the Covid lockdown 5 years ago, and it is a pleasure to return and confirm that Sonja and Filip are still hosting one of the most magical small lodges in the whole of our country. We enjoyed all their wonderful facilities on our 3 night stay, a fantastic breakfast basket, glorious swimming pool and lovely spa with a great view of sunset. We were in the recently refurbished Aroha suite which is the most private and now has a great kitchen and bathroom re-design. The attention to detail of our hosts in their care of the property and the furnishing of the rooms is fantastic. At least 3 nights in Golden Bay continues to be top of the list for our recommendation to independent travellers with time to expore the country properly. If you do have that time to spend in this little corner of Aotearoa, would totally recommend the Bay Lodge as the place to stay- its a beautiful place, so comfortable, and in a truly beautiful part of our country.

Im Februar waren wir für fünf Nächte in The Bay Lodge in Pohara. Die Lage oberhalb des Dorfes mit Blick auf die Golden Bay ist phänomenal. Es gibt drei Zimmer in der Lodge, wir hatten das kleinste, was aber völlig ausreichend ist für zwei Personen. Die Ausstattung ist komplett und äußerst geschmackvoll. Ausserdem ist das Zimmer in perfektem Zustand. Zum Zimmer gehört eine wunderbare Terrasse mit mehreren Sitzgelegenheiten und sogar einem eigenen Bett im Freien. Auf Wunsch bekommt man von den Gastgebern einen Frühstückskorb, der am Abend vorher gebracht wird. Darin enthalten ist alles was man braucht und es schmeckte vorzüglich. Etwaige Besonderheiten (z.B. vegetarisch) werden selbstverständlich berücksichtigt. Vorbildlich. Die Gastgeber selber sind an Herzlichkeit nicht zu überbieten. Wir wurden am letzten Abend sogar noch in deren Privaträume zu einem Plausch eingeladen; so als wenn man sich schon jahrelang kennen würde. Tipps für Ausflüge oder Restaurants gibt es reichlich. Die Verabschiedung am Abreisetag war so herzlich wie von guten Freunden. Das haben wir so noch nicht erlebt. Bei alledem ist das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis nicht zu schlagen. Fazit: Eine der besten Unterkünfte die wir jemals in Neuseeland hatten (und wir waren schon 8mal dort unten). Wir werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.
