A440 in Tuscany

From the minute we walked in, we felt so welcome! Lovely friendly reception staff. Our room was amazing, the bed was super comfortable and plenty of space around to store luggage, clothes etc. Bathroom was huge with plenty of soft, fluffy towels and everything worked well. There is a fridge but no kettle in the room, but the staff were more than happy to give us hot water if we wanted to make our own tea or coffee. Breakfast was included and had a good selection of pastries, eggs, bread, fruit, yoghurt as well as tea and coffee. Location was good, we found it was an easy walk up through the bush track into the old town and we even hiked down to the famous Gladiator shooting spot (not an easy hike though so be prepared). Parking available near reception. The gardens and pool area are beautiful and well maintained with plenty of chairs to relax on. Thank you so much for making our stay such an enjoyable one, we loved Pienza and A440

The A440 website markets the property very well but the experience didn’t match up to our expectations. We booked 2 nights directly with them in June. A swimming pool is important to us and the description of it on the website ‘ Immerse yourself in our natural swimming pool and its complete tranquillity ‘ couldn’t have been further from the truth. On turning up at the property we found a sign up outside it saying ‘ THIS IS A BIOLAKE, IT’S NOT A SWIMMING POOL’. The water was filthy with green slime down the side. See pictures. The whole of the garden area looked as though it needed a good tidy up, grubby, with uncomfortable, tatty sunbeds, one of which I fell through when I lay on it. Yes, the views are amazing, but if you’re looking to enjoy them immersed in a lovely cool pool, forget it! We explained to the lady on reception we’d never have booked if there hadn’t been a pool, and requested a cancellation of our 2 night booking but she very politely refused.

So much love for this place! From the moment we rolled up the terrible road you've probably already read about in other reviews - we know we'd love this place. It's serene and off the beaten track - still close enough for a walk to Centro storico in Pienza in like 10 min. The pool area is unlike any pool area I've ever seen.. Dining at the outdoor space by the restaurant while the sun sets over the valley... Waking up with a view through the glass door (annex room) looking out over the valley as the sun colors it with its morning orange tinted light. . Extra plus for having clearly labeled Vegan options on the menu. The Burger was great and the ancient grain pasta dish as well. Impeccable service. Oh, the only thing is that there was no plant based milk for coffee/with cereals at breakfast. We didn't really see the function of the extremely large social space/lounge in the main building but I'm guessing family's might book several rooms and then simply hang out there to socialize. Wifi is spotty/poor. But I don't mind. I rather just look at the views and maybe even get a little bored... That's the zen vibe one will get from visiting the a440. I'll be back. That's for sure.

The Good - Amazing views, tranquil. The Bad - 1/ accessibility hard to get to. The road to the hotel is horrible. Nothing more than a dirt trail. 2/ this property is not walkable to the town. They tell you it is at check in but it is not. You will need to trek over a mile to the town. At night it’s even worse. It’s through the woods. Be prepared to dirty your evening wear and destroy your shoes! 3/ There’s no iron or ironing board. 4/ gravel parking and hard to get to room. You literally need to drag your luggage across rocks to your room. 5/ there’s no pool. It’s a pond with slime and giant mosquitoes.

It is a terrible place, they try to give the impression that they got several stars, but they do not deserve more than 3,...being generous, our room was in the attic, no air conditioning and warm, the weather is hot. Not much care for visitors, as an example they started cutting the grass before 9 AM generating a horrible noise. Sorry but my free advice to everyone would be try another one in Pienza .

We are forever in love with Hotel A440 in Tuscany!! It is situated overlooking the Val D'Orcia which provided unparalleled views of Montalcino and San Quirico and the most exquisite sunsets. They have a fabulous restaurant onsite where we enjoyed both a relaxing hearty breakfast and a delicious dinner both days. We actually cancelled our second night dinner reservations to return to the A440 restaurant! The staff was so pleasant and hospitable, and we really enjoyed Barbara's local recommendations for wine, food and shopping. The room was comfortable and offered a private garden and sliding patio doors. The best part was that while the hotel was nestled into the tuscan hills, it was also only a 10 minute walk along a back gravel path that led right into the gorgeous and charming town of Pienza. We did our wine and cheese tastings there and stumbled back for dinner without having to worry about driving from a winery. I would definitely recommend the area - we did visit a few sites in Montalcino but Pienza stole our hearts.

hotel bem localizado próximo ao centrinho de Pienze (de carro), com bom quarto, e bom café da manha, único ponto negativo colocamos em relação á "piscina"que na verdade é um lago com lodo, sabíamos disto, e achamos que se fosse transformado em uma piscina padrão seria uma experiencia muito mais gostosa, teríamos ficado mais tempo aproveitando a vista.

Wir haben das A440 ausgewählt weil es im wunderschönen Val d' Orca liegt. Wichtig zu wissen ist wie man zum Hotel kommt. Unser Navisystem hat uns einen Weg vorgeschlagen, der nicht befahrbar ist. Auf der Webseite wird der Weg beschrieben und das ist wirklich der einzig mögliche Weg um mit dem Auto zum Hotel zu kommen. An der Kirche gerade aus weiter fahren auf die nicht befestigte "Straße" und nach einigen hundert Metern geht es rechts rum und leicht bergauf zum Hotel. Aber mit unserem wirklich grossen Auto sind wir problemlos zum Hotel gekommen - man muss sich nur ein wenig Zeit nehmen (was man hier sowieso machen sollte). Zu Fuß kommt man übrigens durch einen kleinen Wald auf einem kürzen Weg nach Pienza. Der etwas beschwerliche Weg zum Hotel zeigt einem aber auch gleich, das das Hotel sehr ruhig liegt. Wir hatten ein wirklich wunderbares Zimmer im Erdgeschoss mit einem Ausgang in einen kleinen Garten. Dort passt zwar nur ein kleiner Tisch und zwei Stühle hin, aber die Pflanzen im Garten und auch davor sind wunderbar angelegt und sehr üppig. Es gibt Rosarien Büsche die ca. 150 cm hoch sind. Der ganze Garten duftet nach den vielen verschiedenen Pflanzen. Hier haben wir uns immer gerne aufgehalten. Vor dem Hotelgelände liegt ein großes Feld mit vielen Olivenbäumen und hinter dem Hotel ist ein Hügel und ein Wald. Man startet direkt vom Hotel zu Fuß in die toskanische Landschaft. Es gibt viele verschiedene Wege und Ziele. Das Hotel verfügt über einen Pool, der nicht beheizt ist. Im Mai - als wir dort waren - war das noch ein sehr kaltes Erlebnis, aber im Sommer ist das sicherlich sehr erfrischend. Am Pool gibt es viele Liegen. Hier findet jeder Gast mit Sicherheit einen Platz. Der Pool ist sehr natürlich angelegt und die Anlage sieht sehr schön aus. Das Hotel bietet Frühstück. Die Auswahl ist überschaubar aber es gibt für jeden Geschmack etwas und wenn man wie ich gerne Pecorino oder ein Spiegelei isst so wird auch dieser Wunsch erfüllt. Das Frühstück war für uns immer der perfekte Start in den Tag. Mittags kann man im kleinen Restaurant eine Kleinigkeit essen, da wir aber immer unterwegs waren haben wir dies nicht in Anspruch genommen. Abends bietet das Restaurant eine sehr überschaubare Karte an. Die angebotenen Speisen sind sehr gut und auch hier wird auf individuelle Wünsche eingegangen. Der Service ist ausgezeichnet. Egal wem man begegnet, man wird freundlich begrüßt und jeder Wunsch wird gerne bearbeitet und auch erfüllt. Das Zimmer ist sehr sauber. Das Zimmer ist recht klein aber alles ist sehr gut aufgeteilt und uns hat es völlig ausgereicht. Für die heisse Zeit im Jahr ist auch eine Klimaanlage im Zimmer vorhanden und Fenster und Terassentür haben ein sehr guten Mückengitter. Es gibt einen Fernseher, mit glaube ich einem deutschen Sender (wir haben ihn kaum genutzt) und um den Anschluss an die Welt nicht zu verlieren gibt es kostenfreies WLAN das wirklich immer funktioniert hat und auch für Netflix ausgereicht hat. Posto molto suggestivo ha due passi da Pienza con ristorante dall’atmosfera rilassata e moderna. Prezzi del soggiorno altissimi rispetto alla stanza dove abbiamo soggiornato (stanza matrimoniale piccola con materassi separati quando sul sito era previsto diversamente , pochi asciugamani e kit da bagno, mancanza del bidè, colazione molto scarsa: arrivati sempre all’orario comunicatoci per la colazione ma tuttavia non ricca solo qualche torta e croissants. Biolago molto suggestivo ma non è una piscina e non è chiaro se sia balneabile o meno . In definitiva la struttura ha dei profili ricercati e affascinanti, seppur presentando grossi difetti!
