The Dolphin Tavern

I had a lovely dinner with homemade chowder and a glass of local cider here. Both were amazingly good. Huge portion, so maybe I should have brought someone I could share it with. The staff was friendly and attentive, nice atmosphere, so happy to eat here again.

We are a group of friends that used to work for the same company, now we have either retired or semiretired we meet up every few months for an afternoon which includes lunch and a few drinks. We have been to Penzance a few times now and the Dolphin is our first stop as it’s not far away from the station. When we arrive we order the drinks and ask for the menu, then the staff always say we can run you a tab which is great as you feel most welcome in the establishment, very friendly and attentive staff, good beers and food, well done.

We came for Sunday Lunch 22/09, left it very last minute to book but they fitted us In with no problems. We had a lovely big table in a book which was perfect for us and our dog. The staff were unfailingly cheerful and friendly, our order was taken quickly (but we were not made to feel rushed at all). Daughter appreciated the free fast WiFi(!!) Beautiful old fashioned pub with quirky, interesting details and a lovely cosy atmosphere without being cramped! We had a roast each, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection with a big bowl of vegetables served with each. My daughter had kids fish and chips which was a substantial size and in her words “the best ever”. Would 100% recommend The Dolphin and will certainly be back!

Honestly the best pub/restaurant in Cornwall the owners and staff are amazing and friendly very professional food is always on point. If you visit Penzance then this is the place to go. Proper family run business nothing is never to much trouble.

I cannot speak for the hotel as we did not stay there but The food was of average quality but over priced and the customer service was poor to the point that we felt unwelcome, no check backs were done even after we’d eaten and no attempt to interact with us, would not return.

Four of us visited twice and both times, as it was very busy, there was quite a wait for food but we were informed of this. Food was hot and nicely presented. The cod and chips was very good and a seafood linguine was excellent, my wife said. The sizzling dishes were a great success with my brother in law. On the second visit my special dish was lemon sole and although very tasty I found the portion too small. The Pinot Grigio was of good quality although a little pricey. The staff are lovely and there is good atmosphere in the pub.We will definitely return when next in Penzance. You are advised to book in advance, even on weekdays.
