Captain Coconuts Gili Air

This was our second stay at Captain Coconuts and we are already planning our return. We absolutely love Gili Air and Captain Coconuts is a perfect place to stay. With a beautiful swimming pool situated in a quiet garden, the delightful bungalows of Captain Coconuts are perfect for all travellers. They have a range of room types suitable for families, couples and individuals travelling on more of a budget. A delicious breakfast is included and the service provided by the friendly staff is second to none. Resa and Belinda also own a sister resort called Captain Goodtimes. We spent two nights there and it was also great. Captain Goodtimes is more suited to families with kids as they have a jumping platform into the swimming pool. CC and CG will organise everything for you such as bike hire, laundry and snorkelling trips. They don't add on extra cost and are good at finding good deals for their guests. Ride a bike all around the island which is safe and friendly. There are lovely shops of all varieties and a huge range of restaurants to choose from. Everything is very affordable. I would recommend a minimum 3nights here but preferably 5. The island of Gili Air takes a bit of effort to get to and I recommend giving yourself an extra day either side for the commute from Bali Island to Gili by Fast Ferry. Even though the ferry itself is only 1.5hours, the journey is quite rough so take some travelcalm before setting sail. We always go with Ekajaya Fast Boats for their larger boat size. The other companies are great for the shorter trips.

Absolutely loved our stay at Captain Coconuts. From the moment we walked in the vibe was great. All the staff are so friendly, genuine and welcoming. The hotel itself is very rustic but very homely and comfortable. We had the family villa with 3 beds and shared living space (the largest in the small resort) and it was perfect for my wife and two kids (a teenager and 9 year old). The rooms are comfortable, firm bed and mosquito nets. The rooms are clean and maintained, but still rustic and original with many reused materials (which we appreciate). We absolutely loved hanging by the pool and meeting new people (mainly backpackers staying in the 18 bedroom dormitory accomodation there). We were very lucky that all guests seemed very relaxed, calm and considerate of others living in a happy little community (which we loved!). Finally the vegetarian restaurant. We are here many times on our 4 night stay for breakfast lunch and dinner. The food is fresh and delicious and well priced. They make great coffees and have oat milk if you are dairy free like us. The breakfast was awesome (and included). Loved the vegetarian nasi goreng, the cucumber vegetable rolls with peanut dipping sauce, and our kids loved the granola bowls and smoothie bowls. All so fresh and delicious flavours. In summary, Captain Coconuts really made our stay in Gilli Air magic and we are already looking forward to coming back and staying at Captain Coconuts again. The only downfall was being woken up every morning at 4:30am by the muslim prayer calls, but we did get used to this and accept it’s all part of the experience. You will be woken up anywhere in Gilli Air this way, so it has nothing to do with the hotel. So if you love undisturbed sleep and if this will bug you then don’t go to Gilli Air. A big special thanks to Indra and Eddie who especially made our stay so warm and welcoming, and also to all the other staff who made Captain Coconuts feel like home! Everyone was awesome. We can’t wait to come back!
