Padthaway Caravan Park

***WARNING BED BUGS *** We were driving from Melbourne (long drive) then heading to Adelaide (long drive) the following day. Upon arrival, I was asked to pay for our room...luckily I had booked (and paid) online so knew not to pay again but not a good start. Also, the weather felt like mid to high 30s so we just wanted to get into our room...the muck around was annoying but I let it slip. When we entered the roomm, my partner discovered loads of flies, everywhere. Hiding in the curtains, under the bed, it was pretty bad. There was fly spray under the sink but surely this should have been dealt with before we arrived? I did let reception know and she was aware it's a particularily bad fly season (unsure again why they weren't sprayed before we got there). There were two taps, one had tank water written on it and there was have a jar of water in the fridge (no clue who that was from). I went to ask what we could drink and was told nothing and to boil the water, put it into the fridge and maybe then it would be ok (it wasn't...it had a milky residue) She offered for us to buy the small bottle of water for $2 each (madness when you're paying over $130/night to stay there...surely that could be complimentary?). She suggested we walk down the strett to the general store. I asked if it was open and she said she didn't know (how can you not know??). In the heat, we walked there. We didn't want to drive as we had been stuck in a car the whole time but yes, that was a silly idea. We got there and it was closed. Thankfully there was someone next door who sold us water. The room was ok, bathroom has a vile shower curtain covered in mold, so we showered with the curtain open. We weren't supplied a bathmat or hand towel. When we arrived in Adelaide, my partner noticed lumps on his legs and, when we got back to Melbourne, discovered they were actually bed bugs. I emailed the park to let them know but didn't get a reply, hence the review now.

There is not a lot at Padthaway so we were wondering whether to overnight at the local caravan park was a good choice, or not. Located off the main road, it is a small park which punches way above its size. Management is friendly, it has lovely grassed sites, good amenities and an excellent camp kitchen. prices made for excellent value. We were very pleasantly surprised.
