Dirty. Dirty crockery, stained and dirty sheets - room disheveled on arrival. Bathroom tap broken. Noise of traffic and trucks all night from the N2 freeway nearby. Had to carry my bag up 2 flights of stairs late at night. Colleagues were moved rooms at 11h30pm after the smoke alarm malfunctioned in their block. Arrived back to my room unlocked by staff on day 2.

The venue has a beautiful landscape and the surrounding area is breathtaking. The rooms are a good size with a rustic, countryside feel. The restaurant provides high quality meals and accomodates large groups. It has facilities for company breakaway sessions. It also accomodates families as it provides outdoor activities like a swimming and a spa.

Myself and 3 of my best friends went on a ladies trip for a weekend. It was beautiful. the service was brilliant from the moment we walked in. There was Danielle at reception who was so accommodating and then there was our personal favourite, Kosie. He deserves everything. This man looked after us from Friday night until Sunday afternoon, through breakfasts, dinner dance on the Saturday and just overall he was the best.. We are coming again, just because of his service!!! lol I actually think he can be tired of us ha ha.. but he was the Epitome of Brilliant Customer service..

We are 4 people on a Cape Town, Houhoek hotel, Elgin market weekend. After a total disaster with the Ceres rail train trips we thought the Houhoek hotel might pull the weekend through, but sadly not. The main event was suppose to be a great dining experience followed by a dance. During breakfast we were asked about seating for the evening and was duly allocated a table. We arrived ten minute before the time to total mayhem. No table booking, no table markers on tables, two people seated at a table for eight, and.. and. Drive before the time just to be told there is not a table for us. We found the lady the booked the tables at breakfast. Her words 'sorry sir I was late and when I arrived people were sitting all over. It is not my fault, it is peoples fault I then firmly advised her to get a table ready and gave her five minutes. Got a table with chairs, but I had to fetch cutlery and salt and pepper from the kitchen. But it did not stop there. After us still at least five more groups met the same fate. One couple even dished up and took their food to their room. Totally incompetent. This place might have been great some years back, but sadly my advice will be, ... get proper management, train staff, and try again. Location and views are great. Rooms ok. The collaboration with Ceres rail is a good match, both totally lack any form of being organised.

Pros: accomodation and breakfast 11/10. One of the best I've ever experienced in South Africa. Great security and they cater for fully halaal. The beds were big and comfortable. Cons: our air didn't work in the heat of Summer (35deg). Not enough swimming pools and they are surprisingly small. Bar fridge in the rooms were small and only limited dstv channels. Only heated pool is at the spa and available when doing a treatment.

Excellent for family weekend. Lots to do for all. Only down side is the Padel court that absolutely refused to process refunds for customers who booked and paid but couldn't play due to the rain.
