Chateau d'Origny, Chambres d'Hotes et Restaurant Gastronomique

A huge thanks to Werner for sharing his jewel of a chateau with us. The staff and Werner, the owner, couldn't have been hospitable, and all meals shared there were really excellent. Rooms were beautifully appointed, clean and comfortable. The special dinner was certainly worthy of all the excellent reviews. Don't miss this absolutely wonderful chateau and culinary experience!

Worth a one night visit for the superb Contemporary restaurant staffed with highly skilled & creative chefs. Expensive (£179 for 2 inc wine), but in London or Paris, a meal of this standard would have cost twice as much. Tipped to gain a Michelin star. Not sure how to describe the B&B side of the business, or our bedroom!! Sadly the lady of the house was away & poor Werner, her husband, was trying to do everything &, sorry to say, but we thought that was too much, although he tried hard! He did very kindly allow us to plug our electric vehicle into his electricity overnight for a complementary “charge up”. However overall his focus seemed to be on his outstanding restaurant! As for our room/suite. Werner had rather persuaded us on the telephone a couple of months earlier to take his best/most expensive room. (The Colonial suite) And indeed it turned out to be vast, but rather resembled the V&A museum, very amply furnished with beautiful antique furniture. But from a functional point of view it was not up to modern day standards in our view: 1. no simple walk-in shower, (as we requested). We did not like the jacuzzi which we found difficult to get in & out of, which was over- complicated & a bit unstable 2. no charging plugs in convenient places for i-phones or our electric toothbrush 3. No soap, but Werner got us (just) one mini one, at our request. 4. A soft mattress that dipped in the middle. 5. A thick layer of dust under the 4 poster bed. All of this forgiven by most, who gave 5 stars, but to be honest, we would only have stayed the single night to enjoy the restaurant, had we known all of the drawbacks in advance.

Une très belle expérience au RESTAURANT du Château, que j’ai noté d’ailleurs 5 étoiles car ça les vaux allègrement ! Mais niveau « chambres d’hôtes », c’est vraiment la cata! Alors oui, d’accord, nous sommes dans un « château »! C’est la vie de château !!! Mais de nos jours, arriver avec une température extérieure de 15 degrés et la même température dans les pièces et les chambres du « château », vu les prix pratiqués, ça ne le fait pas… du tout! Canapés explosés tellement ils ont subis les affres de la vie, seule la salle de restaurant est top ! Ce n’est grandement pas suffisant ! Dans la chambre, la baignoire balnéothérapie ne fonctionne pas et quand on voit les autres critiques sur Trip, on se rend compte que c’est loin d’être « nouveau »! Donc oui à 1000% pour venir manger au restaurant du château car c’est top et ça vaut, à mon sens, plus qu’une étoile Michelin, par contre, la partie « hôtelière » est clairement à fuir, sauf si le propriétaire daigne à investir un minimum, mais ça… ce n’est pas gagné !!!
