Betty Doon Motor Hotel

This is a terrible place. It is in great need of repair. There is a door next to the entrance to the apartment it is locked from the other side. However, there is no way to secure that door from our side. You need to walk from the parking lot in the back, up to the street, passed the shops, then down an alley to get to the door to this place. The bathroom room would not fully close. The toilet seat kept falling off. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms but not in the kitchen, hallway or bathroom areas. So those rooms were hot. The bathroom tile is cracked. There are spots of unpainted plaster. Above the twin bed is a light in the ceiling with exposed insulation. There is no outlet in the bathroom. The blinds are broken and bent in the living/bedroom. There is no shade or blind over the door in that room; we had to hang a sheet. The wifi kept booting us out. Don't stay here!! You will regret it!

So we found ourselves in Ogunquit and booked this hotel (motor inn) in the last minute. It is conveniently located, next to the town’s Main Street. Lots of parking, quite, clean and moderately priced. We enjoyed the town, had a good night sleep and everybody were happy! Nothing fancy, not at all, but definitely satisfactory.

My family and I (10 people ages 2-78) booked 2 large rooms at this motel back in March of 2022 for the weekend of july 29th 2022. We stayed at this motel last year and liked the amount of space each room had and the close proximity to the beach so we thought we would return. BIG MISTAKE! When we arrived to check in, we were told they are under new management and had cancelled our reservations. No apology, no alternate options, just 10 people stuck in the rain with no place to go. As if not having accommodations in a town that books up every weekend wasn't bad enough, we had paid a deposit that they were UNWILLING TO REFUND! They put the blame on the previous owners and *******, we called ******* and they attempted to contact these managers when they stopped answering their calls. We showed them our bank statements and confirmations from ******* but they still lied and said they had not received payment, and even if they did the were not going to honor our reservation because the rooms were rebooked by other travelers at a much higher rate. So they took over a business, refused to notify the upcoming guests, cancelled a previously booked reservations and waited until these guests arrive to notify them so they could rebook new guests at outrageous prices or try to price gouge unsuspecting guests who arrive to check in and tell them they cant have the room unless they pay the new rate. I have read on other sites as well that we are not the only victims of this scam operation, in fact other guests we spoke to at the motel state they fell victim to these "new managers" as well, they would have been in the same situation but had a family member that came to check in and was informed of their room cancellation so they knew to call ahead. We also spoke to a local business owner that states since these new managers took over they have had nothing but complaints and are afraid their terrible business practices will negatively impact tourism in this beach town. In addition to being careless with people's time and money, they also have no regard for health and safety, all health and safety permits were expired. The Oganuit police department was contacted and the officer was extremely patient and helpful with the situation, management was also able to magically find our deposit in their system after he inquired. After unsuccessfully finding another place to stay in the area, we had to count our losses and drive all the way home. If you feel like driving for hours and then spending your vacation weekend back at your house, this is the place for you! I understand this family manages multiple properties in the Ogunquit area as well, so look before you book!
