Norseman Resort on the Beach

This is the first time I’ve felt compelled to write a review. My spouse and I came down for a 4 day weekend - we’ve heard great things about Ogunquit that I can confirm are all accurate - it’s a wonderful place to visit. The only extreme letdown was the decision to stay at Norseman. When I booked, I asked for a room with a private terrasse - I was quoted a little over $800 a night for room 310. I was already aware that the rooms themselves were nothing special but that didn’t bother us - this is the only resort that has direct beachfront access and we were willing to live with that. Now here comes the kick-in-the-nuts - the room is DIRECTLY adjacent to the live band of the restaurant next door that plays from noon to 5pm on Friday/Saturday (and I’m writing this on the Saturday - I’m willing to bet but am scared to ask about Sunday). You cannot hear yourself think or have a conversation - this renders the private terrasse completely useless. The noise is so loud you can’t even lie down in the room. At no point in time when booking were we informed we would have to ensure blaring live music from less than 5 feet away. The manager, Alex, a very indifferent and rude fellow, could not care less. Nothing was offered for the complete bait-and-switch play save to tell me that most people are somehow magically aware of this imposition and that they will “let me leave early”. This is a perfect example of what happens when you let the fat get fatter - they’ve lost all sense of the need to invest in their hotel or treat their guests with a minimal moniker of respect. Ogunquit should allow other hotels to open up on the beach - we’ll see how quickly things would change at the Norseman. Unless you have kids, do yourself a favour and stay at one of the MANY beautiful hotels in Ogunquit - there are plenty that have beautiful sea-side views and the walk over to the beach is not at all difficult. Don’t stay at a place that is clearly only interested in taking your money and indifferent as to the quality of your stay.

I was so looking forward to our stay at the Norseman. Based on location, photos and cost I did have certain expectations. The beachfront room was clean however for nearly $800 a night, I expected at minimum, the bedding and towels to be more than absolute basic. The towels were thin and well used ( frayed edges), the mattress had sink holes on each side. The furniture was old and tired. The view from the patio is unbeatable. Unfortunately there is no separation between rooms on the patio so it made it difficult to sit outside and enjoy. The room next to us had a group of 8 or 10 people that gathered and took over the area. Some type of panel between rooms would be nice. They definitely take advantage of the location when setting their prices as the rooms in no way reflect an $800 price tag. The gorgeous beach was the saving grace.

BAIT AND SWITCH at its finest. When we called there were no ocean front rooms available (It happens). The fellow suggested a room on the second floor with a partial ocean view and stated we would like it equally as well. This was our summer vacation. My goal was to sit on our deck reading a book (checking every so often to see if the ocean was still there). They stated that there were no notes with a room request. This is an outright lie. They stated all that was left was room 118 with a partial view. I attached the view from room 118. Although we have been traveling to Ogunquit for over 25 years, we have never stayed on the beach. We were excited. We could only afford two nights. It was $835.00. Say what you do and do what you say. I gave them a one rating due to the fact we ate breakfast in the Splash Restaurant. The staff was great and the food was excellent.

This was my husbands and my first time staying at the Norseman. We’ve been together for 40 years and wanted something special to do. We definitely were not disappointed. The staff was very kind and beyond helpful. We stayed on the first floor on Sundowners deck (although you cannot request the floor or room, where you stay, in a particular section) and the first morning I was up early to see the sunrise on the ocean. It was amazing. So much so, it brought tears to my eyes! This is truly a beautiful place to stay and worth every penny! We had such a relaxing stay, we will be returning next year.

This was our 15 th year staying with the Norseman Resort, I can not put into words how wonderful our experiences have been, The staff is so accommodating!!! The beach is just breathtaking!!!! Sunrise amazing !!!! This year we had the wonderful, cheerful, helpful services of Kai Griffins always smiling with any request we had . We are booked for next year already.

Location, location, location. The hotel is right on one of the best beaches in Maine. The facility was clean and the rooms are up-to-date. The resort has paddle boards, kayaks, and other water floats available for guests. My motivation for writing this review, however, was to call out one of their employees (Eric) who was very helpful with the boats, gave us ideas for things to do, and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had a good stay. I probably won’t remember what my room looked like when we decide to book again next year, but we won’t forget the view from the deck and Eric’s warm hospitality.

Can’t beat the location. Room itself is fine but nothing too special. I find the lack of hooks or drying racks frustrating, given that it is a beach hotel. The room has two king beds and towel sets for four people, but only one towel hook on the back of the door and one towel bar on the outside of the shower door. With four people who have bath towels as well as wet suits every day, there is absolutely nowhere to hang things (unless we want to hang wet suits in the closet). You are on the beach! Seems sort of silly that this wasn’t the first amenity they thought about. Would also be nice to have a waterproof mat outside the door to wipe feet off when coming into the room, since it is carpeted and so usually covered with sand.

We love the location( the beach!), the cleanliness of our room, the daily cleaning services and plentiful supply of coffee and towels, and especially the awesome kindness of Kai, our housekeeper, who extended a helping hand and empathy to me in many ways! What a star! Thank you, Kai! You absolutely made my day!

Great location. Stayed in Skippers Deck. 2nd floor; has overhang to get shade if you want, and you can sit outside if it's raining. Direct oceanfront. Can't get any closer to beach. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Very friendly staff. Splash restaurant is right downstairs, had breakfast one morning and it was great. Went with another couple, they were able to put our rooms side by side. Short walk to town to restaurants. The beach is perfect, clean and sleeping to the sound of the surf was priceless. Will definitely be back.
