Sierra Sky Ranch

We stayed in this accommodation for 2 nights and were disgusted not only by the state of the place but also by the service. The room itself was incredibly dusty and looked like it had not been cleaned in months. It was in dire need of refurbishment. One of the panels in the window was broken and repaired with sellotape. Another window was covered in bird poo on the outside, dust and dead flies on the inside.The bedding was shabby and covered in cat hairs (avoid if you are allergic to cats as we saw at least four large resident cats that roamed freely around the place). One of which tried to go into our room when we opened the door. The air con panel hung off the wall and didn't work. The main room door was ill fitting which meant a very cold draft came through. The bathroom floor tiles rocked in places and the whole room was infested with ants. Upon looking under the bed we found amongst the dust bunnies and bits of rubbish, a trap of some sort covered in dust and covered in insects. The bed cushions had several questionable stains. As for the breakfast, this was a disaster. The only drink options were coffee or tea. Food consisted of potatoes, sausages, scrambled egg and a croissant. On our second morning after waiting for 20 minutes for someone to appear,we were offered potatoes and a croissant as they had run out of everything else. The receptionist on arrival was dismissive and at best bored . When we complained about the above the attitude was again dismissive and disinterested. The facilities; swimming pool - absolutely disgusting, green water and shabby furniture. The lounge area was in desperate need of a clean as we sat in there for 10 minutes and were sneezing because it was dust ridden and musty. Such a shame as this place is in a lovely location and has the potential to be something special.

Whilst visiting Yosemite National Park, my wife and I wanted to stay somewhere a bit different to the hotels and motels we were staying in throughout the rest of our trip. With this in mid, the Sierra Sky Ranch was the perfect place for us to stay. The Ranch has history and real atmosphere. Our room was very warm and cosy with real rustic charm. Breakfast is included in the room rate, which was extremely welcome. The choice of pancakes or a cooked breakfast was perfect. On our 2nd night in the ranch, we just relaxed in one of the sitting rooms with a glass of wine ($6 for the biggest glass of red ever!) and chilled out with the cats that live at the ranch. All in all a really lovely stay. Why just 4 stars? On arriving at the Ranch, we got a little bit lost, as although there is a big sign on the main road, there is nothing visible in the dark when you drive past. This left us feeling a bit lost and confused. Also, the Ranch feels like it would just benefit from a little bit of TLC, but was a lovely place to stay.

After driving all day, looking forward to our room. Small room for King bed. No nightstand, lamp on my side, like to have H2O, book, phone by bed.. Bathroom door there instead. No coffee in room or refrigerator. For an Ascend Comfort Hotel we expected more. Should’ve book Holiday inn for more room. Beautiful location
