Maisha Nungwi

Our stay was truly exceptional, from the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. The resort has a great location two minutes walk from white sandy Beach with Crystal clear turquoise water. The staff was really friendly willing to assist in every request. They do assist you with transportation and booking you your required trips. The resort has two indoor pools and very nice rooms. I would give it 3/5 for breakfast, Other than that, they do have a restaurant right by the beach, which serves amazing food with beautiful sunset view and they do have entertainment every other night.

The place is amazing . Super friendly and accommodating staff. Great breakfast and lovely relaxing atmosphere . The beach club across the road belonging to the hotel is a plus . They allowed us to check in early since we landed very early in the morning . Would definately return !

Our stay at Maisha was really nice. The staff is always kind and accommodating, the rooms are spacious and the two pools very tropical. The hotel is surrounded by nature and you really feel the exotic vibe. Maisha beach restaurant is also very nice, we visited when they had the sea food grilled night and it was great! Highly recommend it!

Had a great stay at Maisha Nungwi. It’s like staying at a tropical forest. Peacful and relaxing. The staff was very kind and helpful with everything. Big thanks to Muba from the reception for having the answer to everything about the island. Very close to Nungwi and Kendwa beach.

Staying here was nothing short of a disappointment. The grounds were poorly maintained, with a stark contrast between the reality and the deceptively flattering photos. It felt like stepping into a budget misrepresentation rather than the picturesque retreat promised. The bedroom was a disaster in itself. The mosquito mesh—a critical feature in this region—was in shambles. While some holes were crudely patched, others gaped open. It was as though they’d started a repair job but couldn’t muster the energy to finish. The bathroom, however had no door—just a flimsy curtain hanging limply between the bedroom and the bathroom, and it didn’t even reach the floor. Privacy? Forget it. Worse still, an unfinished wall dominated the space, a ghastly eyesore of overflowing mortar and untidy brickwork. It wasn’t trendy; it screamed laziness and neglect. This monstrosity also served as a backdrop for the bed, so there was no escaping it. Practicalities were no better. There was no fridge in the room, which is unacceptable in a country with such heat. Renting one cost an additional $5 per day—an insult considering the circumstances. The balcony curtain was laughably inadequate, leaving you at the mercy of the blazing morning sun. As for the balcony door itself, it required Herculean strength to open or close. Nature’s intrusion wasn’t a feature; it was a problem. Lizards wandering into the room were met with a shrug and the dismissive advice that “this is nature, don’t worry.” The Masai were kind enough to spray for mosquitoes but offered no solution for the reptilian invaders. The lack of a generator was another glaring failure. Daily power cuts, sometimes multiple times a day, left us stranded in darkness—something we hadn’t experienced at any other hotels in Zanzibar. And then there was the food. Half-board was a joke. The same uninspired menu was recycled every day, with additional charges for certain items—dollars only, of course. Drinks, even soft ones, weren’t included. If you fancied anything from their so-called barbecue menu, prepare to pay extra as that wasn’t covered either. Overall, this was an unforgivable letdown, riddled with negligence, poor planning, and blatant penny-pinching at every turn.

We were 2 couples and spent in Maisha 4 nights and we have to recommend this accommodation to everyone! Everything was perfect - rooms were clean, pool and the whole garden is beautiful and also food was delicious (especialy live cooking). All staff is so nice and helpful.
