Barrowfield Hotel

Just returned from an enjoyable 4 night stay at the Barrowfield with Daish's coach holidays. The hotel was warm & clean with a cosy atmosphere. Meals were varied & of reasonable quality & well presented. Service was good although staff shortages meant a slight wait for meals at times but that was only a minor issue. Nightly entertainment with bingo & quiz added to a good value all round holiday.

The Barrowfield is in a great location with bus stops just outside. It's easy to get to Truro, Padstow and other places on the bus. The food was hot, and well cooked with plenty of choice and big portions. The room was cleaned to a very high standard every day. The journey although long was very comfortable. The weather was great throughout the whole stay which was lovely, but it made the bedroom over hot as the window can only be opened a small way.

This was my second visit to the hotel. The overall impression is that they need more help. Most of staff work very hard to manage the great number of visitors.. with only a few exceptions. Crystal in the Restaurant is a complete dynamo...and even managed to assist a relative newby who was clearly struggling.. and all with a broad smile. The restaurant had been consolidated over to one side, since my visit last year.... apparently due to less staff coverage. The Bar Staff were great... always ready willing and able... and front office staff were for the most part very helpful. It was however clear on a couple of occasions that one staff member (who apparently fairly recently transferred there), allowed his frustrations to speak rather rude and abruplty to both myself and several other people. He was busy and appeared to resent being asked questions. (Not ideal for a front desk position)... it actually became a topic of conversation among the guests... not ideal. The female manage definitely attempted to make up the balance in that area... going above and beyond to keep everyone happy. My room was on the 3rd floor on both last year and this recent visit.. and it did get pretty hot the first day. I figured out I needed to close the curtains during the day to keep it cooler, but the window situation was not ideal.. with a block of wood holding it open. (I almost lost the wood out the window, in the attempt to reopen it a little wider. Having a shoulder issue, I could barely reach to make the adjustment. Definately needs a better solution). I did appreciate the fan in the cupboard. The only other issue was the shower water pressure being very low every day though I showered at different times... lovely and hot but low pressure, forcing me to take the shower head out of the holder to wash myself off. Coach drivers were great and overall this is a great location and a good deal.

We had a break at this hotel with Daish's Holidays.The positives good value for money good location. Over all the hotel was clean and tidy.Food was a bit hit and miss.The service in the restaurant was poor at times due to lack of staff. Entertainment was poor apart from one evening. I think his name is Steve King ? He was very good.We would return to this hotel .

We had an excellent 5 days 4 nights at the barrowfield hotel Newquay the jour6fron the isle of wight which included the ferry and coach was excellent thanks to Gary on tge way out and Kevin on the return was perfect the hotel staff were excellent too the food is just right breakfast and evening meal with lunch out and about on our travels room is warm and spacious also bed comfortable thanks to all for a perfect stay looking forward to the next one

The hotel is clean and staff friendly. The room was large with plenty of wardrobe space. Unfortunately the matresses were not comfortable. My single bed needed to be replaced. The springs were so down on one side that I slid out of the bed whilst asleep and hit my head and side on the bedside cupboard. I spent the next few days with a sore head and side. I did report the accident. Although bathroom was basic it was clean (radiator was rusty) and shower was adequate. Comfortable seating in the lounge and bar area. Sadly hotel was badly let down by the resturant . The food was awful and restaurant staff seemed under stress. I would not recommend this hotel .
