We chose the Hemlock Neversink for a 20th-anniversary getaway. It was great to have the spa on site, and we partook in several treatments that were inconsistent in their quality. The Hemlock also has beautiful and tranquil grounds, a restaurant, a pool, a sun deck, a lovely and well-equipped gym, activities (odd options), fitness classes (few), and goats. All of these amenities made it an undeniably perfect choice for our celebration. While the Hemlock has all of these things going for it, the management, food, and lack of cleanliness in our room detracted significantly from our experience. A few weeks before our arrival, we received a short questionnaire about our preferences, and the correspondence led us to believe that a concierge would be in touch with us to review our selections. This never occurred, and mere days before our stay, I emailed the hotel to ask about our itinerary. I was particularly concerned about the availability of spa appointments as the spa is not exclusively for hotel guests. After a bit of back and forth, the representative with whom I was emailing disappeared. It took a couple of days and several calls to unanswered phone extensions to finally connect with someone who told me they would look into the situation and whether we could be "fit" into our selections. This did not create the best first impression, and that uneasy feeling carried through to our eventual arrival, where we were welcomed with a request to sign a liability waiver. This did not set the tone for four nights of relaxation and could have been done through email before our arrival. The cabin we were staying in and many items on the grounds needed repairs. The restaurant staff were friendly and accommodating for the most part. The food and combinations of ingredients were odd and unappetizing, and the breakfast menu remained unchanged and uninspired throughout our stay. Plates lacked garnish or any sides. The continental breakfast was lacking and didn't feature many appealing choices, and for some reason, they didn't place napkins on the tables at breakfast. Guests never know where they can sit because the tables are set haphazardly. We found management to be especially unwelcoming, uncommunicative, and unaccommodating. No phones were in the rooms, so we had to email or walk over to the front desk (not a quick walk) if we needed anything. We emailed a request to have housekeeping return and redo things in our room, but the front desk never replied, nor did they call us. We had to walk over and get confirmation that someone would come by. I also emailed the parent company, Foster Supply, regarding our dissatisfaction and still haven't received a reply. When checking out and experiencing the sticker shock of our final bill, the front desk person asked my husband about our stay. After my husband didn't give an enthusiastic reply, the attendant didn't even bother to probe about our experience. For the hefty nightly rate, the Hemlock Neversink was not wort
