Ranten Hotell Best Western Signature Collection

An unexpected surprise. When I booked this hotel I thought it was in a city. Good thing I had a cell phone to call the hotel and find out it is in the mountains. A wonderful experience I will never forget We were the only guest at this hotel. We were greeted by the Hotel Chef by the name of Bjarne Andersen. This man made our stay fantastic. He took the time to cook the two of us a complete and wonderful dinner including reindeer pate and a wonderful fish entree. This guy should get an award he catered to us like you would not believe. Breakfast was also a a gourmet delight. He drove many miles just to open the hotel for one couple in June of 2014. The room was OK but the real asset of this hotel is the chef Bjarne Andersen. A one of a kind gem who made two experience travelers very grateful to have met him. Thank you Bjarne.

Very disappointing hotel not a 4star hotel. We were looking forward to our visit, but were left somewhat disappointed. The hotel is very tired and in need of renovating. The room didn’t have the facilities advertised with no coffee tea making facilities or kettle. (With an expectation you buy a coffee for 55NOK!) Decoration was very worn and poorly done. Door handles for the terrace coming away from door. Bathroom was actually a very very small wet room. So everything in the room got wet when you showered. Beds were old and had gone soft so not that comfortable. No bedding provided for the sofa bed. The staff were doing their best. They were always polite and responsive. The food in the restaurant was good but didn’t match the menu? Breakfast was good but choice was a little limited. Only one Tesla charger available so unable to charge my car as another person in a Tesla was plugged in for entirety of our stay. Overall a disappointing visit not what we were expecting for a junior suite! The photos used on the website are misleading and do the best job I have seen in making the place look modern and fresh. It isn’t. Not the standard you expect of BW and of a 4 star hotel. (At best 2 stars)

Lovely treat to myself. Beautyful suroundings, nice service and a decent meal for dinner.

GOOD: (1) it is in the suburbs, very quiet, with good natural scenery, suitable for a vacation. (2) Breakfast food was good. BAD: (1) The room was small and the bathroom was compact and basic, making it difficult to turn around. (2) The check-in service is not good. We waited quite a while before someone comes to help. (3) Because it is in the suburbs, there are no grocery stores nearby, it is not very convenient. WORSE: We booked a suite and received email confirmation from BW the day before arrive. When we checked in, the hotel gave us a regular room instead. The reason was: the hotel was full and since we using points to redeem for room night so we were downgraded. The hotel gave our room to paying guest instead. The main reason i booked a junior suite instead of a regular room because I have limited mobility and need a larger space. I am not aware use accumulated reward points to exchange for accommodation won't have some benefit as paid customer? We will submit our complaint to BW headquarter after return to USA. We desire some explanation.

Wonderful staff and great views. Dining options are limited and expensive.
