Murdeira Village Resort

Take with a pinch of salt Accommodation is very dated. Website photos do not reflect the hotel. Many of the properties on the resort are old and dilapidated. Wifi in room was the worst I have experienced in the last 10 years and we was lied to about this. For example you will have Wi-Fi on the sofa but less than three metres away you can’t use Wi-Fi in the bed to make a phone call. It was that bad. It was explained as a blackout across Cape Verde however good internet in bar area and other parts of Sal. Friendly and helpful staff especially Duke and the restaurant and bar staff. Free shuttle to Santa Maria twice a day was useful.

Lovely little stay by the sea I had a really lovely stay here for 4 nights on a solo trip. Gorgeous location, really handy free shuttle into Santa Maria a couple of times a day and easy to book a (paid) transfer to and from the airport. Food is off a menu for breakfast and dinner (I opted for half board) good quality and large portions. Everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful.

Unteasonable Following the Heathrow fire and closure, we were unable to get to the hotel as planned. We tried to contact the hotel to let them know but no answer on the phone or by email. When we asked for a refund it was refused

Our second accommodation on the island after Santa Maria. Murdeira Village is the place for peace and quiet, no music in the daytime anywhere… heaven! Our room was at the back of the village, giving us sunshine on the balcony in the morning, out of the wind, plastic furniture is tiny and broken on the balcony, we used the sitting room chairs. The room is big, well maintained, very basic, not really a kitchenette we only had two odd glasses, two odd tiny cups and we had to ask for a kettle. The Fridge is tired but ok, no cooking facilities. No aircon needed for sleeping, I could feel the springs in the bed, slept on a duvet thing did help. Lovely fresh cotton sheets every couple of days. Laundry very clean and the room was cleaned everyday. Blackout curtains. That sand does get everywhere! The shower is very good if you have it before everyone else. A small shop down the road. There is rocky Sandy walks up and down the coast from the village. Average temp was 25 degrees, perfect. Evening cooler and sleep able. Our air cushions came in handy on the sun loungers, there are not enough sun loungers round the pool but we managed to get some most days. The sun loungers are homemade wood and not the ones on the website, no loungers on the beach as in the website images. The cushions mats are spilt and tired but they are comfy if you get out of the wind. Would be great to have loungers on the beach or beach chairs and wind breaks. More wind here as it is exposed, the cove bay is swimmable when the sea is less rough. Some coral and fish here, we did snorkel and you can sea turtles. The hotel beach bar / restaurant and beach bar has good food. We had the b&b options, one of everything off the breakfast list. Dried French bread jams and butter, egg (how you like them), fruit salad, yogart, a ham and cheese sandwich (good for lunch). The pool is busy at weekend. Sunset most nights, depending on the amount of sand in the air. We hailed the local bus at the roundabout into Santa Maria, €1.20 each, cozy hiace vans, very friendly and wonderful people. Very easy to get back too.

The staff was BEYOND friendly, but my main grievance is that I had paid extra and arranged for an airport transfer both days before I arrived in CV and before I left CV and they did not comply with either. I paid 45EUR for 2 taxis, both a 7-minute drive from the airport. If I pay for a service, I wish it was available. Also, the wifi on the resort did not work at all the entirety of my stay; and being that the resort is away from the main city/area, it made it very desolate as my phone and none of my other devices had service due to faulty wifi from the resort. Otherwise, the food and drinks were amazing and very fairly priced, and the rooms themselves were nice. The amenities were very nice as well.

Hard to review stay as I was suffering from after effects (but clear) of recent Novo contracted in UK as lost 8-9 lbs. So did not due what I expected to do & 1/2 way thru stay started to pick up. Room, staff breakfast very good. Had nice trip to Santa Maria they provide for free. Pool fine but used less than expected as not up to it. Snorkelled in small bay up from reception. Good first 2 days last day churned up so visibility issues. Very nice walks N & S of resort on or near beach which I could not exploit as much as wished. Nice meals in afternoon N of reception. Good Super Mercardo on site S of reception
