Triton Authentic Cretan Hotel

The Triton Authentic Cretan hotel seems fairly small and located at the beach. Don't expect the four-star standard you're used to in Central Europe, but the hotel is nice and, unlike the overcrowded and bustling resorts such as Hersonissos and most places on the north coast, it offers a quite peaceful holiday. If you have All Inclusive, you can help yourself to beer, white and red wine, water, fanta, cola, etc. at the hotel almost anytime (long drinks and spirits are not offered as All incl). The room has a small refrigerator, A/C, TV and a spacious balcony. If you come in the morning, you´ll wait for the room until 2:30-3:00 p.m. when it is ready, what is not pleasant anyway esp. after a sleepless night , but you can go relax by the sea—sunbeds are free (about a quarter of them have broken reclining mechanism), or you can lie down in wooden "cabins" under tamarisk trees. The beach is just across the road (blind alley which leads only to the hotel and local houses). The staff is nice and helpful. In my opinion, the food is very good, with several types of meat, fish or seafood every day, sometimes moussaka or pasticio, sometimes tzatziki or taramosalata, often olives and capers, always several types of salads, roasted and fresh vegetables, pasta, all influenced by Greek and Cretan cuisine. Every day there were two types of melon, oranges, sometimes other fruit, baklava (perhaps sweeter than honey itself), quite tasty small cream cakes, and vanilla and chocolate buns (which I didn't care for) ice-cream self service. Our daily problem was mostly not to overeat ourselves.. Between meals, there are some cakes and extremely simple sandwiches. There are about 15 taverns and cafés in the area, as well as about 7-8 shops, including souvenir shops and the Ariadni chain store with good prices. Since there is no bus service from here, I recommend renting a car for at least a few days, which can be done directly at the hotel or at a local rental agency on the other side of the resort. Otherwise, you may well get bored after a few days. The hotel and travel agency offer excursions, but we found them quite overpriced as usual... Crete is huge, and it's true that everything is quite far from Tsoutsouros.. Once if you drive to Knossos near Heraklion (the entrance fee has been increased to €20, but it's "a must" - the No. 1 attraction and symbol of Crete), go as early as possible, as crowds start pouring in in the morning and it's difficult to get through. We visited the most beautiful places in Crete, such as Vai (eastern tip) and the beach at Moni Preveli (crowded), but you will drive over 300 km in a day mostly on winding mountain roads, but it was worth doing for us. Some people may also be interested in the Lassithi Plateau and the adjacent Cave of Zeus (but it is currently closed 7-2025). Every Wednesday, the hotel hosts a free Cretan evening with folk songs, where you can try to dance the simplest Hassaposerviko or Sirto dance. Don't expect

Do not book here out of season. We were led to believe that we were booking the hotel which in actual fact was closed when we arrived. The rooms advertised were not in the hotel but further up the road. They were damp and smelled bad and we did not stay. Hotel refused a refund.
