"The onsen was wonderful. This was our third visit, but our first time staying overnight, and we came with our 8-year-old child. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our room was traditional Japanese style, complete with tatami mats and authentic decor. There was a separate alcove with a hot water dispenser (thermo pot) for making tea. The windows overlooked the courtyard, offering a beautiful view of maple tree branches.
Dinner was a kaiseki meal, served course by course, featuring 9 different dishes – we particularly enjoyed the charcoal-grilled river fish, sashimi, and beef steak. The portions were quite generous. Breakfast was also excellent.
The staff were very friendly. A young man who showed us around, upon learning where we were from, mentioned his love for Tchaikovsky and even added a 'thank you'. The hotel also has a souvenir shop on site. Both indoor and outdoor baths are available, offering views of the river and forest."

"We arrived by car, and parking at the hotel was quite challenging. It's best to pull up to the entrance and have the staff assist with parking. The staff provided excellent service, offering a detailed introduction before we checked in. Our room, located right by the river, was very comfortable and had a lot of character, reflecting its long history. It's important to note that while there's a private toilet in the room, showering facilities are located at the main hot spring area, accessible via a small wooden bridge. Kurokawa Onsen itself is quite small; you can explore the whole area in about twenty minutes. We were lucky enough to catch the Yu-tō Festival (Lantern Festival) on its final night. The hotel's dinner comes highly recommended. The portions were incredibly generous – we couldn't even finish it all – and the taste was excellent. Featuring both wagyu beef and horse meat, it was truly a highlight."
"A group of 7 people are traveling by car, so transportation is not a problem.
The staff was very polite and communicated simply in English.
The hotel was decorated very clean and clean, and the rooms were a big surprise.
There are not many rooms, but each has a separate bath and of course a public hot spring.
Also due to location, no light will see the stars at night.
The meals at kaiseki cuisine are arranged by a dedicated person. The line is beautiful and attractive and tastes good.
Although it was an unexpected booking, seven people were overjoyed.
Will definitely go again if I have the chance."
"There are many public and private bath to choose from in this ryokan. Plus you can get the kurokawa onsen pass (tegata) which gives you access to 3 external onsens in the town (most ryokans in town are participating) within one year of purchase of the tegata. We didn’t book dinner at the hotel, and used the diner time to try Nonohana お宿 野の花 and Ryokan Konoyu 黒川温泉 旅館 こうの湯, then next morning before breakfast I went to most of the onsens in the hotel, then after breakfast we checked out and tried Miyama Sanso 山みず木別邸 深山山荘, all four places (including this hotel) have amazing onsens and views. We drove so it was easier for us to try onsens far from the hotel, but driving in town wasn’t the easiest given narrow roads. The parking lot is a few minutes walk from the hotel, we kept the key with us for easy move around."
"Top notch friendly front desk staffs with smiling face all the time. Service is excellent, they even help me to park my car and take my luggage to the room. My room has a private onsen and it was surprisingly big. The public onsen in the hotel is also very nice particularly the outdoor pool where you can hear natural water flowing sound from the stream below. The dinner was great even though I am not a big fan of horse meat. Cleanliness and tidiness is impressive. Breakfast was in Japanese style, but you can still have a cup of drip filtered coffee. Overall I love this hotel very much and will prefer to stay there if I happen to go there again."
"It was so good! I will never forget the experience of bathing with my eyes on it. It was far from the Kurokawa Onsen Village, so it was quiet and quiet, so it was perfect to rest. I rarely saw other guests! It's like taking a bath after chartering My parents are also very satisfied with coming next time
It was all generous and delicious in the evening and morning. I don't like Japanese food very much because it's salty and greasy, but the food here was delicious! It seems to come out really generous. And beer is also served and really kind ㅠㅜ
The outdoor bath is good, but the view from the inside bath with the window open was so good as a picture!! The mixed bath was also not very crowded, so I went there, but the scenery is good!
The price is reasonable compared to other ryokan !!
However, if you go in winter, you have to be careful. It is a mountain and it is dangerous if it is snowy, so chains or snow tires are essential. We were worried that we would go and buy anything without it...!
Anyway, if you rent it, it is recommended !! I feel the tradition of Japan well 👍😊"
"The hotel is very nice. You must drive to there. Staff are very friendly and polite. It has restaurant, lounge with free coffee and tea. Room has 2 hot spring, inside and outside each. It also provide cleansing oil, moisture milk etc. Cuisine are delicious."
"A small villa with its own door and yard. The room we booked this time faces a rice field. The experience of the private hot spring in the room and the public hot spring are different, but both are special enjoyments. Recommended!"
"The hotel is ideally located close to major attractions and transportation hubs, making it convenient for tourists and business travelers. The rooms are comfortably and elegantly designed, fully equipped, and provide high-quality beds and a quiet resting environment. The service staff is enthusiastic and professional, and can respond to needs quickly, making the stay experience more pleasant. The hotel offers a variety of dining options, rich and delicious breakfast, as well as facilities such as a gym and swimming pool to meet the needs of different travelers. The overall environment is clean and tidy, and the cost-effectiveness is high. It is a recommended accommodation option."
"Incredible experience of a very authentic ryokan! Good location - in the center of Kurokawa, right on the river bank. Spacious room in traditional style. Extremely clean. It was warm enough thanks to the air conditioner, despite the fact that it was cold and snowing outside. The room has its own bathroom. The kaiseki dinner did not leave me indifferent - it was like a special event - everything was very beautiful and very tasty. Breakfast is also good. The hotel has wonderful baths - one of them is in a cave. The water is moderately hot. Everything was very clean. Many thanks to all the hotel staff for a wonderful holiday - I will come again with pleasure."

Amazing
NNataliia KhokhlovaI really liked the hot springs with high iron content in this ryokan: I had sore throat for about 3 weeks before the journey, but it recovered just after the first bath. We also liked that family baths are for free if they are vacant (in the evening there wasn't any problem). The staff is attentive, thank you very much. The food was delicious, and there was more than enough for a man. However, we would recommend choosing a Japanese-style breakfast, since frying eggs on a burner is not very convenient. Nevertheless, everything was delicious. As for the drinks for breakfast, there was only coffee from the coffee machine. But there is always green tea in the room (we had problems with the hot pot, so they brought us a thermos).
The only thing we did not like was the heating. However, it is unlikely to do anything with it when it is minus 3 degrees outside at night. Without heating, it was very cold, the floor was cold. But the heating is very noisy, and it is difficult to find a temperature balance. We sweated a lot at night under the blankets, and since the shower is not in the room - it is in the onsen, it was inconvenient. Thanks God, we had spare pajamas with us.
Overall, for this cost of accommodation we can give 5 points.
GGuest UserI finally realized my long-held dream of staying here, having booked the room over half a year in advance. Its location is indeed quite remote, nestled deep in the mountains. Upon arrival, a car picked us up directly from the hot spring bus stop, and the elderly driver was incredibly warm and friendly! The heavy rain on the day of our visit truly enhanced the ambiance. The room itself was incredibly spacious. Surprisingly, even in June and with the rain, it got so cold at night that we needed to turn on the air conditioning. The cuisine was also quite sophisticated. Dinner was exquisite, though the portions were a bit on the small side, leaving me not quite full... The private six-foot outdoor bath was absolutely unforgettable – a definite must-book! If I had to nitpick, for a price tag exceeding 3000 (currency unspecified), I expected the service to be a touch more enthusiastic and friendly. I couldn't shake the feeling of being treated slightly differently (compared to what I observed for local Japanese guests and Westerners). Having stayed at no fewer than 10-20 hot spring ryokans in this price range, I'd say claims of 'superb service' are a bit of an overstatement. Overall, I'd give it an 80/100, and despite the minor points, I still highly recommend it!
GGuest UserExcellent! The rooms are beautiful and well-appointed, featuring excellent soundproofing and stunning views. The numerous hot springs were all incredibly relaxing and comfortable. The front desk staff were exceptionally friendly and always ready to assist with any needs or requests. The hotel's dining options were also fantastic and more than satisfying. I highly recommend this place!
LLimJia YingDespite our language barrier, the owner loves conversing with people, which is why he decided to open his guesthouse. He even recommended a little path that shows a great sunrise. I was greeted with some deers hopping in the distance at 6.30am. Truly magical and breathtaking. This is THE place for solo travellers. There’s a saying that it’s the people that makes the trip enjoyable and this place is proof. He charges for accommodation cheaply but offers beyond the cost, within his means happily. He loves anime like Attack on Titan and has watched Laputa 21 times. His hobbies include biking, hiking and has hiked Mt Kuju several times, Mt Aso too. He travelled to Vietnam Cambodia and Thailand solo trip too, and wants to do it again 3 years later.
As my first time doing solo travelling, I couldn't be luckier than this to have met this wonderful host. I would say so far, my time spent in Kurokawa Onsen and together with the host is my whole trip’s highlight. I felt very safe and comfortable in this living space and truly enjoyed the nature surrounding it as well. I love the location of the guesthouse because I love walking and hiking. The main area of Kurokawa Onsen is quite a walk itself, so walking to the guesthouse was just extra leisure for me. Just make sure to follow google maps and the various sign boards he’s put up along the way! He offers a ride back and forth at 8.10am and 5pm to the main area anyway and to the supermarket if needed, very generous of him! Make sure to not be shy and chit-chat a lot with him! It was so much fun.
The room was very cozy and with the 6 beds arranged, an extra 100 yen per night for the heater is totally reasonable to me! it felt like I was back to school and enjoyed the cleanliness and casualness of everything. Damn, this place has great interior design too. The lights have motion sensors, pretty cool! He also has his own little beautiful hot spring which you should pay extra if you want to bathe at night. Personally did not find the need after bathing at the town haha.
Thank you for the comfort of home and lovely company!! I hope many people who enjoy company and nature stay here!! Highly recommended for at least 2 nights! The onsens are all very good and beautiful. I want to come again.
JJackieXThe hot spring hotel in Kurogawa was not booked, and Trip.com chose a holiday house in the nearby Tibetan hot spring. Arrive before 6 o'clock, otherwise the staff will get off work. The house is very old, the name is ”Mei”, and the other house is a very new one and should be much more comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped; The indoor hot spring is very hot, you have to try the temperature before entering the water. The towels are small and you have to bring your own bath towels.
GGuest UserFrom entering the parking lot everything is taken care of, the rooms are enormous, the size of and amenities of a decently sized appartment along with a large kitchen and finally a private onsen fit for two people right next to the beautiful Kurokawa onsen river, aswell as a small waterfall creating an absolutely dreamy experience. The Ryokan is a about a five minutes walk outside the city center which is absolutely no problem as you have everything you need there.
The gentleman in the reception speaks decent English so even with no japanese knowledge you should be fine
They only seem to have four rooms, we got lucky and booked two days ahead, but most likely won't be that lucky.
Absolutely would go again, great experience
GGuest UserA very satisfying stay!
The design of the cabin is stunning. The two-story independent cabin allows children to climb up and down as much as they like. The owner of the B&B is very enthusiastic. Even if he doesn't understand the language, he tries his best to use translation software to introduce Kurokawa Onsen's attractions and B&B facilities. It really makes people feel like returning to their hometown.
Kurokawa is very quiet at night, and you can really enjoy the tranquility and leisure of the deep mountain hot springs.
The cabin is fully equipped and can be used for simple cooking. I cooked Japanese sukiyaki pot with the children in the cabin, which was very satisfying!
The outdoor hot spring in the B&B is another amazing place. Because it was summer, we didn’t make a reservation for the hot spring. The owner of the B&B enthusiastically invited us to enjoy it (unexpectedly). Unexpectedly, it turned out to be an independent open-air hot spring. I highly recommend making a reservation. It’s too Feel comfortable!
The next day, the children were very reluctant to say goodbye to the owner of the B&B and the owner's dog. Along the way, they still missed the comfortable bed (actually just a tatami sleeping mat) in the B&B. I will definitely visit again next time I have the opportunity!

MmengThe location is on the top of the mountain, very remote and quiet. But the surrounding environment is very good, the birds wake us up in the morning, and the wind whistles at night. The room is very clean, with complete facilities, sauna and hot spring pool.
GGuest UserA wonderful Ryokan. There is an onsen for your feet in the yard. Inside there is an onsen with an opening window for a sense of freshness from the street. We lived in a Japanese-style room with futons. The toilet is in the room, and the shower is shared. Also, upon check-in they give you a ticket to the neighboring hotel Yukio no Hibiki Yusai with a very good onsen with two pools, one inside, the second outside almost above the river. Very cozy in the evening to sit and warm up.
香香港旅客44The hotel is located on a plateau plain, which is very affected by the weather. There is often heavy fog and hazy phenomena, and the scenery may not necessarily be good. However, the air is very fresh and the temperature is perfect. In addition, the hotel facilities are good and the food is very diverse and attractive. The room is so big and convenient for picking up luggage. Because the location is not very convenient, it is only recommended for self-driving travelers.
