We have just returned from nine days holiday at Le Hôtel Savoy and it was the best ski holiday ever. We have been to Meribel about 30 times over the last 17 years previously staying in catered chalets, however with Covid, this is no longer economically viable for a couple and so we turned to a hotel. We had eaten at the Savoy on several occasions in the past and knew the food to be good, so it was that we booked for early March. Unfortunately Covid struck us and we had to cancel the day before we were due to arrive, as we were still testing positive. The hotel were brilliant allowing us to transfer our deposit to another room three weeks later although they were within their rights to keep the deposit, as our cancellation was after the cutoff date. The service from and professionalism of the hotel staff is first class, not only that they were also friendly and helpful. Generally their english is perfect and they had no hesitation entering into conversation and providing advice. As I mentioned earlier, the food is very good, both the cooking and presentation, the menu provides enough variation to cater for most tastes, but is small enough to ensure that everything is fresh. Breakfast was a buffet with a wide variety of choices and eggs were cooked individually to your choice. Our room was very comfortable, with a balcony facing south and masses of storage. Admittedly we had the best room in the hotel, as this was all that was available at such short notice, but I am sure that the other rooms, will be of a similar standard for their price. The hotel bar was a sociable place to meet, it serves tapas style food at lunchtime as well as afternoon tea and delicious looking cakes from 3-5pm. Although the hotel is in the middle of the town, it is only a few yards away from an escalator that will take you up to a small ski run which will then take you down to the lifts at Le Chaudanne, just a couple of minutes skiing. On your return, you can use the same escalator or the free bus which stops outside of the hotel, there is no need to stay on the bus whilst it travels all the way around the town’s one way system, as you can get off at the rear of the hotel , Les Ravines stop, and access the hotel through the lift in the car park at Les Ravines, which delivers you next door to the hotel’s ski room. Whilst a ski in/ski out hotel has its attractions, at a premium, the location of the Savoy is not only convenient to the piste, but also to the restaurants and shops in the town. We will definitely be returning in 2023
