Adorable lodge in stunning Mazama. No bells and whistles, but provided all the basic amenities in a large, pristine room with a spacious bathroom. Hot tub on-site, and close to tons of outdoor activities and the darling Mazama Store for supplies. Highly recommend!

Beautiful Lodge with high end bedding and furnishings. We just love it there. The snowshoe trail is one of the best. Amazing views and scenery. The large Hot tub was perfect after a busy day outdoors. The Mid-week special rate is perfect for us locals.

Do your research and call and ask the resort which"amenities" are functioning! 1. Google maps indicate this is about a 3 1/2-hour drive from Seattle. It took us 8. One hour of the delay was due to fires in the mountains. I learned what a pilot car was. 2. Most importantly, Print out a map! You lose internet connection once you hit the mountains. 3. Use the restroom and pick up some water and snacks (thank God we did) before you begin your journey, as there is nothing on the way. 4. This "resort" does not provide instructions on how to access your room once you arrive and there is no one to direct you. They email you directions 30 minutes prior to your arrival but again, no internet service so you won't see it. Thankfully another guest helped us find out how to unlock the key to our room in the outside "safe box". Luckily, I had a minute of internet connection to see the email and get my access code. Otherwise, I would have been sleeping in the lobby. 5. No facilities at the resort for food or beverage, not even a vending machine for water, etc. 6. No cell/internet service. If you search you can find a paper with the "WIFI code" but it's useless as it doesn't have any service. They remove the sign with the WIFI code when no one is at the desk. 7. There is a bar/restaurant (Mazama Public house and small store, gas station) about a 5–10-minute drive away but they close at 8PM IF they are open that day due to staffing issues. There is a town, Winthrop, about 14 miles away that is a cute cowboy themed town with tourist shops and restaurants, gas station and there is supposed to be a grocery store nearby. 8. The room was comfortable, very spacious and clean. The TV works sporadically and mainly a fuzzy picture. Bathroom shower worked well and enough linens were provided. The TV remote batteries were dead and the next day there was a woman at the desk (who doesn't like to be bothered) who said she would try and look around to find batteries. She did and delivered them about an hour later. 9. If you really want to get away from everything and like hiking this is the place for you. 10. If you are an old city girl, find somewhere else. I wasn't expecting the Ritz Carlton, but being this is listed as a "resort" and for the prices they charge, I did expect at least minimum services. None of the "restaurants" listed on the resort website were functioning. Also, if you need cell service or have an emergency good luck. I guess we would have had to break into the office for a landline if we did have an emergency or find a fire alarm to pull! Glad we had something to eat before we hit the mountains as once we arrived, there were not any options. 11. Leave a LOT of time when departing especially if you need to catch a flight. The route we took was closed due to fires and the return trip took us 10 hours. 12. I do a lot of research when traveling to somewhere new, but there just wasn't enough information to prepare me for what we expe

We stayed in the lodge over the New Years holiday. At times it felt as if we were the only guests and was the perfect scene for our quiet winter getaway. The room was cozy and the gas fireplace was better than a real fire. Closest hot food options were a drive over to Mazama and Winthrop. We would absolutely stay here again.

This is my 4th trip to The Freestone Inn in the last 25 years. Things have changed for the worse in so many ways. Peak season in the Methow Valley should come with good service and a well kept facility. 1) No staff: Lodge staff is only there from 9-5. As far as I could tell this includes only 2 people. Not a lot for a huge grounds. There's no one to answer questions after 5PM, phones go to voice mail. 2) No lodge access after hours if you are in a cabin. You have to walk around the building to get to the hot tub and there's no access to the lodge interior after the staff leaves. 3) Internet is useless. With no cell reception in this location, Wi-Fi is barely usable. I get being disconnected from civilization on vacation, but when staying at a relatively luxurious establishment, some level of connectivity would be nice. Get with the times. 4) Self check in was pretty easy but if you don't have the email handy, without cell reception, write down the lock box code before you get there. 5) The grounds are not well kept. Landscaping around the pool is overgrown and in need of maintenance. The pool in general is not very clean and it appears that is not regularly maintained. I had to skim off hundreds of bugs with a net and the pool bottom had a lot of rocks and dirt. I found a DEAD MOUSE in one of the pool filters that looked like it had been there decaying for over a week, maybe longer. I did not swim after this. I can see how a mouse would get in the pool seeking water but to leave it there for a long period of time is not OK. I cleared it out and notified management. I never got a call back. Seems like a very unsanitary condition. All the pool filters were full of pine needles and bugs so it looks like it is not being regularly maintained. The walking paths are not well maintained. The lawn at the lodge is not well maintained. The pool bathrooms are dirty. 6) The cabins are pretty much what they have been for the last 20 years. They have AC so that was nice. The back decks are vey worn out, nail heads sticking up, old rickety furniture, cheap small BBQ, rotten wood. Interiors are clean and well lit, decent furniture and very comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped. We called ahead about a coffee maker and AC. They said no AC and drip coffee. There was AC and a Keurig machine, not drip, so wrong on both counts. My coffee grinds were useless. 7) Restaurant permanently closed: We were informed they only do special event catering. The restaurant when operating was a real jewel with great food. The bar was not open the entire time we were there and if it would have been, we could not get in the lodge after 5PM. The reason given was that they could not find staff. Doesn't sound true as the Mazama establishments 5 minutes away have plenty of staff. The woman at the front desk had a justification for every concern and was very defensive. She said she was retired and working there to help the family who owns the place. Merrill Gardens owns it so I don

We loved our two-night mid-week stay at the Freestone Inn. The property is so centrally located, just a minute drive to town and 15 minutes from some of the best hiking trails. Our room was well appointed, with strong AC for the heat! The pool and grounds were well maintained and we enjoyed the privacy. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back!

We stayed in a lovely, secluded cabin (not the lodge) with a well-supplied kitchen and bathroom. Very peaceful after the initial start-up issues. Tiny bathroom as the photos showed so no surprises there. Outside deck chairs and picnic table are rotting, splintering, and in need of help. Wifi here was poor to terrible. Be sure to download whatever you need before you get there. I would have given a higher rating for the cabin itself. However, there was horrible communication from them and horrible wifi. It was like pulling teeth to get the information I needed. What cabin #? What is the wifi password? Do you have a site map? What is the access code to get in? [not available until ½ hour check-in before which basically meant when I arrived there, with no good wifi.] This information was eventually contained in 3 separate emails and I never knew which one I needed to look at. This certainly could have been consolidated to make my life easier! And the entry code could have been provided before 3:45pm for a 4pm check-in! [No wifi on Hwy 20 drive there.] There was a notebook inside the cabin where it would have been nice to have the wifi password, the property map, and info on nearby hiking trails. Once there, with their contact-less check-in, the notebook said to “call us to let us know you’ve arrived.” Nice concept, but I was unable to make a call. They had a landline phone there but I didn’t see until the next day that you must dial “9” first. That should have been posted on the phone. Restaurants there were closed so if you don’t bring your own food, Winthrop is 15 miles away.

First time staying at the Freestone Inn, but it won't be our last. Located a little west of Mazama and right on one of the CC trails...great location. We had a Deluxe King room #12, Upstairs on the end. Great room, spacious with a comfortable bed, fireplace, and deck. There is a small refrig in the room, Microwave downstairs. My wife said the hairdryer was excellent....don't always get a nice hairdryer at hotels/inns/etc....so this was a bonus!!! Nice to have a couch, chairs and ottoman. Check-in was easy and all on-line communication ahead of time was great. And the quiet....a real plus....so quiet everywhere. The lobby is amazing with comfortable chairs, an impressively huge stone fireplace and a lovely view to the lake outside. Front desk was very friendly and helpful. We will be back!!!

This would have been our 7th stay with Freestone. It’s a place we’ve loved coming for years, though for the last few it has been noticeable that they are struggling with staffing just as their website now notes. Yesterday I called about an upcoming stay (14 days from now) and our ability to cancel because my nephew has been in the hospital and yesterday was life flighted to a hospital that specializes in his care. I had called with the same concern a week ago, and was told I still had time to cancel although looking back, I didn’t share that our booking was over NYE, and they didn’t ask. During this part of the conversation, the person I spoke to told me it was a lie that I called because it wasn’t in their notes, and it was a lie that I was told I had more time to consider the reservation. This was bad enough, but it got worse. I told the person I was speaking to that the details around cancellation left me feeling misguided, both as a result of the phone call I’d had previously, and the email I received. While freestone notes that they celebrate specific holidays, and for those 30-day notice is required, Freestone has no facilities open on NYE including restaurants and so it’s surprising that they consider this a holiday they acknowledge. The person I spoke to said she did not care about my confusion and said I’d signed their agreement, which is what she did care about. I was still speaking when she ended the call, and what I was saying is that we’d obviously keep the reservation if our only options were no refund or come. We also considered sending friends. I called back twice and she did not answer, however when my husband called from a different number she answered immediately. He clarified our intentions with her but said he also still wished to speak with a manager. She told him the manager would be in today, Monday 12/18. Last night I received a note that Freestone had cancelled our reservation and was charging us the full stay. My husband called again today and we were told the manager will now not be in until tomorrow. We likely won’t be back in time for our reservation as my nephew will still be in the hospital, and if that comes to be we’d planned to send friends as a gift. I’ve never been treated this way as a paying customer anywhere, and as we’ve recommended so many friends to freestone over the years it’s painful to write this: don’t stay here. They can’t afford staff or to make up for their own mistakes, and you will be out money or the good vibes you came for if you interact with the person I did. Mazama Inn, Basecamp, and Sun Mountain Lodge are other places we’ve stayed and are filled with caring and accurate staff.
