Riad Ifoulki

We spent 3 nights at the Riad Ifoulki and we had just the best time. First, let me say a big thank you to all the wonderful staff who work there and cannot do enough for you, the hotel Manager Abdul who put a new Sim card in my phone in the first 20 minutes and was always ready to help and answer queries. The hotel is full of charm, a real Moroccan experience with lush interior gardens and lovely places on the roof to read, sleep or sunbathe. The hotel is in the old town and you can walk to anywhere you might want to have a look at in Marrakesh. We chose half board and we were really glad that we did, breakfast can be had at pretty much any time you wish and anywhere in the hotel you wish to have it. Dinners were excellent and magical taken on the rooftop terrace. In spite of being in the centre of the city the hotel is very quiet and the rooms are lovely and most have their own private terrasse. But the thing that made Riad Ifoulki amazing, is the atmosphere and the way the guest are treated, it's like a great big embrace. everyone dines together, along with the owner Peter and you get to know everyone in the hotel and it's great for using your languages and swapping tips for visits in the city and outside. We absolutely loved it and we made friends.

Beautiful riad with very helpfull staff! Friendly welcome with tea, good explanation and the rooms were ready even when we arrived early. Also we immediately were offered lunch. They helped out with umbrellas since we had a visit under very rare rainy circumstances. Room was comfy and I can imagine that with the hot summer weather this will be a peaceful place to chill and relax. Very flexible with breakfast (which was very good) and also with arranging transport or tours. Some small maintenance in some rooms can make the experience 5/5.

We had a really lovely stay here in Riad Ifoulki. Peter, the owner and all the other great people made our stay feel like home. Besides the 10/10 hospitality is this Riad a perfect place to chill in between your trips with their nice garden and their rooftop where you can enjoy some great Maroccan tea or Coffee and enjoy the sun!

We love Riad Iflouki and if and when we return to Marrakesh we will definitely stay here. It is an extraordinary place, a real oasis in the middle of the Medina, handy for everything. The Riad is quite a large building with several courtyards each with citrus trees and the happy sound of birds; I imagine in the summer it to be cool. There are lovely alcoves in which to sit at a table or on large lounges and read or socialise. The rooftop terrace is a delight and we breakfasted here everyday in January. The sun was warm, 21 degrees and the sky blue. Breakfast is prepared to order, between 9 am and 6.30pm and consists of as much of the varied breads as you can eat, served with omelettes and jams, also the soft white cheese that is so common. Central to the charm of the Riad is its owner, Pater Bergmann a Danish octogenarian with a relationship to the Riad and to the city going back to the late 1960s. He is a delight; interested and interesting and can switch between English, French, Danish, Swedish and German at will. His philosophy with his staff is commendable and Abdul, manager and Ilias and Mohammed were very helpful and polite, able to communicate in English and French. The ladies, most produced the food and cleaned the rooms were charming too. We had two of our four evenings eating in the Riad which was the best food we had while in Marrakesh. You get four courses with ample bread and wine is available to purchase. We had the Moroccan Red and Rose both of which were very drinkable at 20 € per bottle. Water is purchased in two litre bottles and is added to your bill at the end but ample tea and coffee came at no cost. The evening meals were 4 courses including soup, a veggie meal, a tagine and a dessert. They asked us if the main meal they had in mind suited before purchasing fresh that day. The meal at €25 per head was reasonably priced and served in the dining room. We ate with Peter both nights and no other guests were present. He was full of information about Marrakesh, Morroco in general and more. Our room came directly off the main courtyard and was convenient and private with a large shower and plenty of hot water. There are no TVs or other mod cons which suited us. Our room was large and was probably one of the bigger rooms with a four poster bed and two sofa type chairs. There is ubiquitous wifi and normal 2 prong plugs. The bed was comfortable and warm. January daytime temperatures were lovely and shorts would have been fine. At night a sweater is a must. Marrakesh has many many Riads and no doubt everyone enjoyed theirs; the Moroccans are very polite and culturally genuinely enthusiastic for their guests to be happy. Riad Ifoulki though I feel is quite unique, almost place like and several hundred year’s old. Much has been done to preserve the old world charm and still make it comfortable. This riad is a dream. It is located just a few minutes from the great square, Djeema el Fna. The courtyard with the fountain and the plants and trees is just the right retreat after a visit to the sights and the medina. It offers peace and shade and you can have a wonderful rest. The rooms are beautifully decorated in a traditional style. However, the friendliness and helpfulness of the entire team is particularly noteworthy. The host Peter has managed that the entire team lives this special spirit in this hotel. Speaking of Peter: The soul of the house is the contact person for all questions about the history of the house, the city, the culture and has many helpful tips for restaurants and shopping opportunities locally. Since he has lived in Marrakech for a long time, he can also tell many interesting anecdotes from times past (and that in about 5 languages!). A very special thanks also goes to Abdul, who took excellent care of all our needs. Highly recommended is also a dinner together with other guests on the roof terrace with a view over the roofs of the medina. After there are more and more large international hotel groups in Marrakech, this riad offers a wonderful alternative to all those who are looking for a central accommodation at the medina in a family atmosphere. We can really only warmly recommend this riad.

Riad Ifoulki enchanted us with its maze of courtyards, greenery, alcoves. The roof terrace offers a fantastic view over the medina and minarets of Marrakech. To sit up there for a sumptuous breakfast or in the evening to sip a glass of wine (the Riad can provide) while watching the sun set and listening as the call to prayer echoes over the rooftops is simply unforgettable. Our generous room had a well-appointed bathroom and a big colonaded porch overlooking the main courtyard. Beds were comfortable, and several doors ensured a peaceful sleep. Owner Peter's staff are excellent and enthusiastic, anticipating our every need. We stayed four nights and would return in a heartbeat.

In February my mother and myself visited this accommodation. Our stay at Riad Ifoulki was very unpleasant, to say the least. There were multiple inconveniences, such as the fact that in the evening it took a long time until the door (in a dark, narrow, and dead ended ally) of the riad was opened, that there was no clear communication about checkout times, and opening times of the office. The most unpleasant and impactful incident was however the gross and inappropriate behaviour of one of the regular male employees of the riad, as he made inappropriate physical contact and comments during the in house massage treatment. After immediately alerting the manager of this riad, he responded with little sympathy to this traumatising event by his employee, and showed no response or remorse. I would therefore not recommend this riad to anyone, especially not woman. We want to warn them for this unsafe environment.

Good day we would highly recommend this hotel. Good location, close to Bahia Palace and other sights of the old town. The hotel reminds me of the 1001 night fairy tale - the room was luxurious, many gardens with and secret places with abundant orange trees and other oriental plants. A good roof terrace with a cafe and the possibility of lying on sunbeds. However, the main advantage of this hotel is individual care for every guest. It's as good as I've ever seen anywhere. There was really a lot of attention for us. Anne Maria, the wife of the hotel owner, who is the soul of the hotel, gave us an individual tour of the Medina - a truly unique experience. We got a lot of really great tips which made for a great holiday. Nous avons passé un séjour magnifique, ce riad est un havre de paix, au calme tout en étant très proche de la place Jemaa El Fna. Peter est un hôte merveilleux, très attentionné avec tous les clients, tout le personnel est d'une amabilité infinie, les PDJ sont copieux et servis toute la journée. Nous avons dîné tous les soirs, la cuisine est excellente, typiquement marocaine. Merci à tou(te)s.
