Socrates Hotel Malia Beach

Stayed at The Socrates end of July into August 2024 as a family of 4. From start to finish this hotel was amazing. Relaxed atmosphere, made special by ALL the wonderful staff. Was Met by George, night staff and security. Dumped our bags in the room and went straight to the pool. Met Maria at reception in the morning. Maria helped us book taxis and negotiate prices into the capital. Breakfast is relaxed. Eating outside by the pool. There is enough food for a hearty breakfast, which we liked. Our first time in ages not going all inclusive and this was far better. And we were not rushed. The ladies in the kitchen are wonderful, so friendly and helpful, always. Despina, it was a pleasure to meet you for hugs every morning. You work hard, are caring, kind and the guests love you. Love your vanilla milkshakes :-) We had a 2 bedroom apartment. Bright, clean, spacious, and cleaned every day by the hard working cleaning crew ladies. The pool area is clean, great sun beds, never had trouble finding a bed, The deep end of the pool is VERY deep. Supermarket with bakery less that a 5 minute walk, with the beach and beach bars another 2 minutes away. Loads of Tavernas left and right of the supermarket and bakery. Its a straight road either way. Just watch out for passing cars, coaches, trucks, quadbikes, mopeds etc on this road. First time ever in Greece - we shall be returning Thank you Socrates, great work by all. You have a team to be very proud of.

The air conditioning didn’t work- was as effective as someone blowing air through it manually 😭 plus the electricity (including the air con) would shut off if the balcony door would open, meaning you couldn’t have someone sit on the balcony and someone else in the room at the same time, unless you locked them out. There were ants ALL over the bathroom, my friend had them crawling all over her toothbrush🤢 dirty underwear found in the room on the first day that DID NOT belong to us. Security would come storming into your room if you were loud too late- we asked what time ‘quiet hours’ were so we could avoid being shouted at, and were told ‘all the time’- great… however, the young girl at the front desk was lovely and Despina was amazing, so kind and the highlight of the whole hotel.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE ON A PARTY HOLIDAY. They have a security man from 9pm who doesn’t allow you to talk quietly on your balcony. The rudest person I have ever met, pulling faces as we walk past and not even saying hello. On one occasion we were sat playing cards out on our balcony, he then came and told us we had to go inside. Then the next day another member of staff banged on our door very aggressively, she then proceeded to scream and shout in my friend’s face and made her cry. Bear in mind this was our first time speaking to her and she told us to go sleep on the beach and that we weren’t welcome. We have felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome whilst staying here. You are also not allowed to talk in your room or they will come knocking your door down.
