Great Lakes Inn Mackinaw City

Scheduled a stay at this hotel from October 5th-9th. Checked out on October 6th because hotel pool was closed for the season and we were not informed of that change prior to arrival. This is important to us as we have a young family and love to swim. Spoke to hotel employee, Brian, who assured us that he spoke to the owners (Carol and Roger) and we would be given a full refund. We confirmed with him that we were leaving in the 6th, cancelling the remainder of our stay, and going to stay somewhere else. No other solution was offered, just that we would be given a full refund for the entire reservation and we were free to seek other accomodations. He advised us to contact Booking to initiate contact with the hotel so that the owners/management could then authorize *********** to issue our refund. Assured us again we would have no issues. When calling several days later to check on a refund that still was not issued, we were told by a new employee, Brandon, that we were given false information by Brian and the owners are now refusing any compensation. Tried to claim that the pool was open and there was no reason for us to leave (which is false. The pool was re-opened days after we had checked out and were already staying elsewhere.) We have spent hours on the phone going back and forth between the hotel and Booking, each time getting a different person and different information. But it boils down to this company, Great Lakes Inn, providing poor service, obviously poor training of their employees, and subpar accommodations to boot. Hotel was lacking in cleanliness and comfort upon checking in but for the price, breakfast, and access to pool we decided to try and make do. But the pool closing was a deal-breaker. The owners put their employees in the middle and refuse to speak to us directly. There is clearly no compassion or basic human values, only refusing to take responsibility for what their employee assured us would not be an issue. Do not stay here.

Would never stay here again! Friendly service feel bad they have to handle dissatisfied Customers regarding cleanliness, functioning shower faucet, mold in the bathrooms/windows, dark lighting, broken lights, dingy walls, carpet, and moss growing all over outdoor patio. It was disgusting, glad we spent more time out of the room than in, however it was costly and should have been. Very over priced! Do not stay here.

We expected better conditions for the price. Odorific, original carpet, sticky surfaces, heat/cool unit packed with crud, and empty bottle under the bed. Only sheets are washed, so we brought our own quilts. How can a hotel expect people to sleep under a blanket strangers have used? They're only visually inspected. Gross. We cleaned the room ourselves before getting comfy. A little more effort from management and staff, this would be a good place to return.

Do not stay at this place. We paid $155 for this place, spend a few more bucks and stay somewhere else. The Pool was like a dirty pond, we could not swim in it. Beds were lumpy and very uncomfortable. Bread breakfast was a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
