"The Villa is beautiful, the pool area good, on the drive up to the Villa it looked great. Unfortunately almost everything about the place could be better. The room was ok, but dull. A great view for sure, but a tiny bathroom with an elbow bashing shower and sad thin towels. The aircon was noisy and not a match for the morning sun. Breakfast was lamentable. Self served either on a terrace that was not well shaded, or in a dull windowless dining room. Tables were not laid up at all, everything had to be carried out on a tray. A toaster that took an age and only toasted one side. Cheap produce, plastic cheese. The fruit selection varied from day today, if you were lucky there might be a ripe peach. Bread rolls that were a little stale, as if had if they had been frozen. Eggs were rubbery and not refilled if you got down towards the end of service. It was more like a cheap motel breakfast than a good hotel. We had dinner at the Hotel restaurant one evening. It was not good either. The main courses were only ok, the accompanying vegetables were dull. I sent back my starter as the melon was not ripe, an essential if the plate is only melon and ham, it came back with the same melon, but the rind had been removed. Unbelievable! No apologies were offered when I sent it back again. When we came to pay the bill at the end of our stay it was still on it. We felt that customer care was lacking at this Hotel. That corners were cut at almost every opportunity. It could have been great, but it really wasn’t. Oh and check out was at 10 am, really, so last century."

"We had a wonderful stay at Villa Marta. I would definitely stay here again. Pros include: loved the chapel suite, swimming pool great, great breakfast, amazing outdoor eating area, very friendly staff especially Roberto who literally made our trip, in fact we were quite emotional when we had to say goodbye to him, he made our trip go from a 4 to a 5. Evening meals were really good, especially the fish pasta. Cons include: not enough sunbeds by the pool and upon arrival it would have been nice to have been offered a complimentary drink and also offered to get help with the suitcases. Also one small point, on the corner of the swimming pool there was a dip in the ground and we saw 2 guests fall because of this, one injuring herself quite bad, so a quick fix is recommended."

Tenuta di Tramonte Boutique Hotel

"We stayed for just 2 nights at the end of a two week trip around various places in Tuscany. We had wanted to finish off with a bit of luxury and be waited on after a week in a villa. What you are paying for here is the location which is very charming and only a 15 minute drive into Lucca. It is a little tricky to find. The staff at this small hotel were really special and very helpful. It had been used as a convent for many years and in some ways it still feels like a convent ( it was reminiscent of the convent school I attended) - the bedrooms are very sparsely furnished with hard floors and thin rugs and non of the mod cons one would expect of a 5 star hotel - at least the bed was very comfortable and the food was delicious. There is however no choice of menu - it is a set menu and dependent on the produce available on the day. We liked the fresh water pool although as others have said it is very slippy to get in and out of and had algae at the bottom so you couldn't really stand up in it - but we enjoyed the no chlorine fresh spring water. It is a dog friendly hotel and people do take their pets which will be a bonus for some and a disadvantage to others."

"I stayed one night with my partner in this property. Very nice and welcoming location. There is a beautiful garden with chairs and relaxing armchairs. Entering inside the impression is excellent and confirmation is found in the rooms: very clean and warm room and bathroom. Buffet breakfast varies both sweet and savory with pastry croissants, while for hot drinks it is the waitress who prepares them and serves them at the table. The girls at reception and in the bar are very helpful and courteous. It is possible to use the private outdoor parking with a supplement of €10. More than excellent value for money!"

"The property is in a great location, easy to reach by parking just outside the walls and very convenient for exploring the city on foot. The hotel is clean and the rooms well-appointed. We also used the hotel's free bikes to tour the streets and above the city walls. The highlight is the reception desk; Alessandro was very welcoming and helpful in offering us advice on how to spend our weekend in Lucca, from what to visit to where to eat. He introduced us to wonderful places and people."

As a thoughtful touch, she even gave us leftover pastries to take on the road, which we truly appreciated. A heartfelt experience from start to finish—very impressive and highly recommended."
