As a history buff I was so excited to stay here only to be extremely disappointed. We stayed in Boatman West and glad it was only for one night. The accommodation has the potential to be amazing but completely misses the mark. Examples of this include a beautiful front courtyard that would have been lovely to send time in however the old broken dirty plastic outdoor table turned me off completely, the inside couch desperately needs replacing, the tv doesn’t have reception, there isn’t even individual toiletries instead there is large domestic bottles sitting on the shower floor which is unhygienic, the floors also needed a good clean . There isn’t even a deal done with the museum for guests staying onsite and are charged full admission. To make matters worse we were also somehow double charged which was quite confusing since the accommodation was prepaid in advance and then manually charged by staff again two days before the stay. This place could be really amazing but isn’t give the love, attention or respect it deserves.

We had a lovely few days in Boatman’s East cottage. It was very well equipped with two bedrooms, lounge and separate dining room. The Pilots Station is a lovely historic site with a cafe and providore on site. Dont miss the Penguin tour and visit the Maritime Museum . Would love to come back again for another visit.

A gorgeous location with quite dated accommodation. If you are expecting a modern stay this is not the accommodation for you. It is a dated kitchen with basic amenities and an older-style stove. The reading room overlooking the lighthouse and water is stunning and worth the stay for that alone. The room configuration is not designed for more than one family (rooms are close together, zero soundproofing, small rooms etc.) so recommend either one family or very very close friends (no young children). The price point is reasonable and check in/ service was friendly.

We loved the location of the Pilot’s Cottage/House at Low Head. Check in was easy through the machine at the Cafe, however, the sign on the house says Pilot’s Cottage, and our key said Pilots House. As there were many different forms of accommodation at this property, I would have liked the key to match the sign as we were tired from our travels. We were freezing and as our luggage had not made the flight to Tasmania with us, only had the clothes on our backs. My husband is an electrician, and could not get the air con/reverse cycle to heat. There are no fireplaces in this house either. It is a LARGE house with a lot of bedrooms. I can’t imagine staying here in winter without heat. It actually detracted from our experience. Thank goodness the bed had electric blankets. The fridge was stocked with our requests from the provisions. Thank you.

From there we went to the oldest, continuously functioning Pilot station in Australia, the Low Head Pilot Station. It’s a collection of buildings, all of which served specific purposes in past days but now house a cafe, tourist accommodation and a rather well curated museum. Set out into themed rooms, there is just the right mix of written information and interesting artefacts. Outside, we watched a big freighter coming down the Tamar and a Pilot boat joining it to safely guide it through the many obstacles contained inside and at the entrance to the river. Bell Bay, on the Tamar, is Tasmania’s busiest sea port.

We stayed here to do the penguin Tour, the cottage has been upgraded to include modern cons. Very little bench space to prepare any meals or put anything you may not like to leave in your car. Tip, if you are older and require going to the toilet during the night, not only is the bedroom the room furthest away there is also a step down from the lounge area to the kitchen that you may well forget about if you are half asleep. The second night l put a chair in the doorway to remind me.

We enjoyed one night in the school house. It was typical of a old weatherboard home from yesteryear, high ceilings in most rooms and unique furnishings. The heating in the kitchen and bedroom was excellent, the lounge was a large room facing the ocean with great views. This is such a unique place to stay situated right on the beach front. Highly recommend this as a unique experience.

Das erste Mal, dass ich Bewertungen im Tripadvisor überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen kann. Wir waren für 2 Tage im Lighthouse Keeper und entsetzt. Das Haus war runtergekommen, anders kann man es leider nicht bezeichnen. Hat auch nichts mit Historisch zu tun. Die Vermieterin erklärte uns, dass die dreckigen Fenster vom Klima kommen, ist ja verständlich, aber von innen??? Wir sind jedenfalls am nächsten Tag abgereist und haben uns ein sauberes Zimmer gesucht. Bei 4 Zimmern gibt es nur eine Toilette. Weiterhin gibt es keine Klimaanlage/Ventilator und die Fenster kann man nicht öffnen (Scharniere verrostet) bzw. haben keine Fliegengitter und diese bei 25 Grad. Da die Bewertung sicherlich subjektiv ist, füge ich der Bewertung Fotos bei, dann kann jeder für sich entscheiden, ob diese „historisch“ ist.
