Hotel Excelsior - Liburnia

Good location, nice, spaceful hotel, nice rooms/bathrooms, excellent wellness area, medium - quality food. Bar excellent. Right on the beatiful promenade 'Lungomare'. Only can be recommended.

Great hotel in a lovely quiet town. This hotel has great friendly and helpful staff. We stayed half board for a week with TUI and found the food options really good with a great choice at breakfast and evening meals. Our room was on the 6th floor( twin room with sea view) and was clean and had good storage space along with a good sized balcony. A good place to stay for a week , and on a good bus route to Opatija and Reikja costing about 11 euro return for 2 people to Reikja. The walk to Opatija along the Lungomare took about 1hr40 mins as we we took in the sights and read the information boards along the way .There is also places to stop and fill your wstet bottle and grab something to eat.

The hotel is in a small village about 1.25 hours from Pula airport. The roads are very bendy. The village isn’t very touristy so there’s not much to do. The hotel itself is very clean. It is built into a mountain so the street side has 3 floors and the sea side has 8 floors. Lovely views over the bay. There is a walkway all the way to Opatija and rejika which has lovely scenery around the bay but not much else. Opatija took us 1.5 hours to walk there. There are buses which run hourly though. The rooms are a little dated but clean and pleasant. There is a fridge with a mini bar of drinks inside. The bathroom has a shower above the bath but there was lots of hot water. The toilet had seen better days but worked. Other people mentioned that the street view rooms are very noisy as the road is a busy one. We had a sea view which was peaceful. The outdoor pool was very cold and there were not many sun beds available although the weather wasn’t too good so it didn’t matter. The indoor pool was lovely and the spa and sauna were very good. Massage was 55 euros which is a reasonable price. There is a bar near the reception. Drinks were about one euro more expensive than the local bar, so not too bad. Breakfast is good, plenty of choices and staff pleasant. Dinner was not good the first couple of nights, but the rest of our stay we had really good food. The restaurant manager Eda was really lovely and made sure we were happy with the food. All in all we had a relaxing time but would prefer a bit more entertainment, maybe some music after dinner in the lounge area? Would also have liked a walk in shower. Would say that the area is very mountainous so there are steps everywhere. Perhaps not the best place for people with mobility issues, although obviously there are no issues in the hotel itself.

The Excelsior occupies a lovely setting, surrounded by trees and with great sea views. It has easy access to the magnificent Lungomare promenade and the small but charming Old Town of Lovran. The facilities are excellent and Mr.Tomac, the GM and his team were friendly, hospitable and helpful, consequently we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay. Our suite was spacious and luxurious and we made full use of the Excelsior’s pools, restaurants and bars when we weren’t exploring Lovran and nearby Opatija, both of which are blessed with a glorious coastline and stunning Austro Hungarian and Belle Epoque architecture.

Excellent hotel in a lovely unspoilt area. We were very lucky to be upgraded to a seaview on arrival which was fab such a beautiful view. Only downfall was that the air-conditioning which is centrally controlled was turned off and it was still very warm and the suggestion to open balcony door instead was not an option as we got bitten during the night and one night it was so hot we couldn't sleep!! However after contacting the the Tui rep we got it turned back on!!!! It does state air-conditioning on the hotel website and not seasonal air-conditioning!!!!?? The food is plentiful and very nice lots of choice at both breakfast and dinner. The freshly cooked pizzas at dinner are yummy. Strange though that there is only one knife and fork set out so you are expected to use this for each course? We just took clean ones from another table!!!! We asked for a kettle in our room as like a cuppa and got one straightaway would be a nice added extra to have full tea and coffee facilities in the room. The spa and indoor pool are lovely and sauna is free to use too. The actual pool area is not that big and would think in high season it would be a race for a sun bed!!!! The promenade walk is amazing we walked so many miles during our stay!!! Lots of lovely local bars and cafes and very low prices too nice seeing them full of locals. We did find though that they don't take card so make sure you have euros on you. Would definitely return to this hotel and lovely Lovran.
