Lochailort Inn

We recently stayed for two nights and were very impressed by both the comfort of our room and the quality of the food. The Lochailort Inn is conveniently situated on The Road to the Isles and was a great base from which to explore this beautiful area - from Mallaig to the north-west to Glenfinnan to the east. On arrival we received a warm welcome and were shown to our room on the first floor with fine views to the side of the building. Our room was spotless and the bed proved to be one of the most comfortable we slept in during the whole of our holiday touring Western Scotland. The restaurant and bar area is functional rather than flashy, but this does not detract from the delicious food which in our experience was of a very high standard. The cooked breakfasts were excellent, particularly the Scottish smoked haddock with poached eggs on sourdough toast. The dinner menu was varied and interesting (including daily specials on a blackboard), using a good range of local produce. The Cullen Skink was exceptional, while we also very much enjoyed the Scottish mussels, the perfect hake dish and the pressed lamb. We could not fault the cooking or the service. Arrived at 3pm but nobody about. The doors where open. Looked like they where just setting up. Rooms full of furniture etc. Decided to go down the road for a coffee. Returned later and a lady was in the bar just setting up. Booked us in. Basic room, no bulbs in lamps, extractor not working. Not worth £160. Went down to the bar and a gentleman who was the owner apologised for not been there to welcome us. Had a meal in the bar as it looked like the restaurant was not yet set up. Meal was ok. Breakfast a bit disorganized. Nothing set up in advance. Looks like a young couple just taken over. Hopefully, they will make a go of it and will give it another go if passing.

Wow, this establishment served delicious food, steak and stout pie was absolutely delicious, others had Monkfish served with bouillabaisse sauce and mussels along with couscous. They said it was delicious. The puddings that we had were white chocolate custard tart , along with ice cream and strawberry compot. I had the chocolate brownie, which was very light in texture that melted in your mouth. Chocolate ice cream with chocolate ghanche. Again, these puddings were amazing. First class service, it was nice to see so many people in for dinner. Well done to Lewis, who is front of house, taking orders and serving the food. We will certainly be back.
