The Swan - A Colombo Edition Hotel

WHAT A LET DOWN - I booked here for two nights as I was working locally. It looked horrendous when I pulled up but thought, it’s two days, it’s not permanent. Food was so horrible that the second night I ate out! Second night the fire alarm went off at 4am. All guests evacuated themselves. We waited, no one turned up, no one came to do a fire check or make sure it was on to enter the building - no fire brigade no nothing! Upon informing management that my second night was horrendous as no one could go back to sleep, they just said “oh well sorry” blamed another guest for smoking in their room and so I asked for the full fire report of the incident and have been ignored since! Sounds like a lame excuse to get out of providing a refund for poor sleep as that is what you expect when you book a hotel! Would avoid this place like the plague!

Stayed here for 1 night on business . Firstly the hotel/pub is located on the edge of the river with all 6 rooms overlooking the river bank ..the train track also runs at the rear of the hotel . The place is in desperate need of a make over and I'm sorry that at £120 without food if you are looking for place to stay keep driving past this place . The rooms are tatty and in need of some overall TLC but more importantly the standard of cleanliness in the room wasn't good enough ...please see photos..carpets were dirty walls all marked, skirting and general appearance around the bathroom /shower area was poor .rotten skirting and the cherry on the cake was the bed- the headboard has a clear horizontal line across it and various stains present and the lower half of the bed frame has a large stain . On a positive note the food and service was actually quite good however the pub doesn't do breakfast but recommend a nearby cafe which opened at 10.00am! I was on the road heading for Starbucks at 6am

Please do not eat here ! We eat here as a family in May2025 The food was very poor, it was pre prepared & cooked ingredients that had gone stale and had been assembled on a plate. The portions were small. Menu was very limited with further things were off the menu. There were very few drinks available at the bar. Everything was priced very high. The staff never smiled and made you feel that you were just an inconvenience. spent a fortune and felt like I’d been mugged. next time we will go to a Weatherspoon’s restaurant for better food and service. I’m not worried about offending anyone with this review as I honestly don’t think the staff & managers care.

We stayed at the Swan recently. This is a lovely pub with chalet accommodation overlooking the Ouse. On our arrival it was clear there were some technical issues. One young man was dealing with a loss of IT affecting booking in, chalet allocation and even debit card payments. Despite the stress and load of all these issues he was calm, polite, and apologetic. He was able to juggle serving customers at the bar, placating guests while attempting to get in some IT help. Soon his manager, a young woman turned up and together they worked through the issues and got us all booked in. Excellent, competent people who recovered the situation. This place is highly recommended.

On driving up from the Village of Littleport we presumed the building in the distance was The Swan but could not be 100% sure as the sign on the building said TH WAN so we parked in the car park alongside the railway line and found our way inside. We were a bit early but couldnt check in as the rooms 'werent quite ready', so we had a drink or two in the bar whilst waiting. Once we got the key to our room we went round to find that the bathroom sink was nearly falling off the wall and a puddle of discoloured water was in the basin and on the floor, luckily we reported this to one of the staff who was outside the rooms, she came and took photos and reported it to another member of staff. The Manager was not on site just 2 young girls who were helpful and were able to contact the Manager eventually with the problem. We wanted to change room but were told that none were available....eventually we were offered a discount/credit on our food for later that evening. Once we had unpacked we noticed the following: Filthy Carpets Tea stains/drips on the desk (hadnt been cleaned) The kettle still had water in it (thought they should be left empty and clean) Bathroom door Handles were broken and nearly falling off No Hand soap dispenser in the bathroom to wash hands We really were unsure if the bedding had been changed as crusty deposits and creases in sheets were found And to top it all there was no Central Radiator Heating , there was a small convector heater but nothing in the bathroom to dry any wet towels. There was a Towel Rail but it was freezing. We stayed during December and there was no radiators working throughout the establishment. We ate in the Restaurant which was pretty cold and on another table there were people wearing their coats during their entire meal! No Breakfast is provided .....For the cost of our room we think a Continental Breakfast should be provided at the very least, we did eat at Habib which was good and the highlight of our stay. (Recommended) We therefore have had a very Dirty, Uncomfortable Freezing stay here and were glad to leave to go for breakfast down the road. We will never stay here again!!

We called here in the evening on Monday 18th November for something to eat on our way up to Norfolk from Stanstead to visit relatives. We chose to eat in the bar as there were a few people in which gave a good atmosphere. The bar is very cosy, well decorated and a pleasant place to be in. The young woman, Tanisha, behind the bar was extremely welcoming and made us feel at home. She produced menus with a flourish and explained that a couple of things were unavailable which, being a Monday, was only to be expected. We both settled for haddock and chips which arrived without a long wait. The quality of the fish was superb, large flaky pieces of fish in a lovely crispy batter with some of the best chips I have ever tasted. I succumbed to temptation and had a brownie for desert which was perfect. The price for the food and drinks was, in my opinion, very good value for money. We will certainly go to the Swan again next time we are in the area. So, in summary, great food, good drinks and very good value. Icing on the cake was Tanisha who was one of the nicest members of staff we have ever met.
