We stayed for three unforgettable days in what was originally booked as a romantic couple’s room, but thanks to the warm generosity of the staff, we were upgraded to a more spacious and luxurious suite at no extra cost. This thoughtful gesture was just the beginning of an experience that felt nothing short of royal. The location is unbeatable — nestled right in the heart of Lijiang’s Old Town, with all the charm, culture, and history just steps from your door. Yet, once inside, the resort feels like a serene oasis, perfectly balancing traditional elegance with modern luxury. What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the impeccable service. We had access to 24-hour butler service, and the staff communicated with us seamlessly via WeChat, making every interaction easy, personal, and incredibly attentive. A special and heartfelt thank you to 小唐 and 龙龙, who both went above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing short of extraordinary. Their professionalism, warmth, and intuitive hospitality made us feel like royalty, anticipating our needs before we even voiced them. The rest of the team was equally gracious and proactive, constantly ensuring our comfort, entertainment, and well-being. Though we were tempted to extend our stay, we chose to continue our travels to a new province — but we left with heavy hearts. This stay was one of the highlights of our entire journey, and we will absolutely be returning in the future. Everything about this place could not have been more delightful! My wife and I stayed here for a week but if we didn’t have to go back to work, we would have stayed even longer! The staff here are very attentive, knowledgeable with the area, and sincere. When you stay here, you will be in good hands, these people really make you feel at home and in good company! This place is serene, so if you need to come relax your mind and body, this is the place to be! Getting here the first time would be a little tricky but that’s with getting to any place that’s located inside the ancient city (GuCheng) of Lijiang. Cars are not able to enter the city so you will be dropped off at an entry way and wind your way through the old cobble streets. The location of Passing Cloud though is very convenient as the entry way is just a 6-8min walk. It is located almost next door to Mu Mansion, few minutes away from the Market Square, Big Water Wheel, and the Zhongyi Market (local fruit/vegetables/dried goods market in the day and street food market at night). For breakfast you’ll be served the staple Yunnan Crossing Bridge Rice Noodles, milk, congee, there will always be a variation with the sides, which includes some fruit, dumplings, pickled vegetables, stir fried dried mushrooms, a small bakery item (cake/bread/roll/sandwich).

From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and a refreshing cup of local tea—a lovely touch that set the tone for the entire visit. The rooms are a serene oasis, tastefully decorated with wooden carvings, soft linen, and elegant touches that reflect the region’s cultural heritage. I loved waking up to the gentle sunlight streaming through the latticed windows and the soothing sounds of the courtyard fountain. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom amenities were top-notch. What truly sets this hotel apart is its “Academic Garden” concept. The lush courtyard, filled with blooming flowers and ancient texts on display, feels like a peaceful retreat for the mind and soul. I spent hours reading in the cozy library nook or sipping Yunnan coffee on the rooftop terrace, which offers stunning views of the ancient tiled rooftops and distant mountains. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay memorable—whether it was recommending hidden local eateries, arranging a sunrise hike to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, or sharing stories about Naxi culture. Their hospitality felt genuine and heartfelt. Location-wise, it’s unbeatable! You’re steps away from the bustling markets, quaint cafes, and the iconic Sifang Street, yet the hotel remains a quiet sanctuary away from the crowds. Don’t miss their breakfast spread, featuring local specialties like Lijiang baba (savory pancakes) and homemade yogurt—it’s the perfect way to start the day. If you’re seeking a stay that combines culture, comfort, and tranquility, Boxin Yunshe·Academic Garden is an absolute must. I left feeling rejuvenated and already dream of returning!
