Fort Charlotte Guest House

The accommodations at the Guest House were amazing. Beautiful, cozy, clean. Conveniently located. Very nice breakfast! The entire team was warm and welcoming. Ryan and Anita both went above and beyond to ensure we were as comfortable as possible. We stayed at 12 different locations during our trip to Scotland and Fort Charlotte Guest House was by far our favorite. Highly recommend. We hope to return again in the future!

Fort Charlotte Guest House is excellent: location, quality of accommodation and service. Ryan understands that his job is to meet the needs and wants of his guests. And if you should be fortunate enough to be served breakfast by Kelly, you have won in the lottery of Life!

My wife and I live in the North Isles of Shetland, on Yell, and visit Lerwick regularly, mainly for shopping. It is years since we have stayed in Lerwick but, due to my wife having to go into hospital for an operation, we had to stay, in order to be certain of getting into hospital at the appointed time. In fact, we had to leave two days early because of horrendous snow conditions and forecast gales, which would impact the inter-island ferry service. We own a tourism-related business in Yell, and have heard all the horror stories of staying in Lerwick hotels, so did some research and discovered Fort Charlotte, which several of our favourite tour guides had recommended. We are so glad that we did. We did not know whether we would be there for two nights or four nights, but Ryan, the owner, was amazingly sympathetic and flexible. He called on two occasions, to find out how the operation went. We ended up staying two nights together, with me staying for one night by myself, while my wife was in hospital. I ended up confirming a fourth night, which I then had to immediately cancel because the hospital had decided to discharge my wife earlier than expected. Ryan had already processed the payment, but promised to refund immediately. You don't find that sort of customer service attitude in hotel groups. Fort Charlotte is perfectly located, on the corner of the main street, and is less than 100 yards walk from the three best restaurants in Shetland. We had Room 2, The Suite, which is on the first floor, with great views along Commercial Street. It had an excellent king bed, with very soothing bed linen. It had two comfortable arm chairs and was immaculately clean, as was the good-size bathroom. Kellie, the housekeeper, was also incredibly helpful. We did not have the opportunity to sample breakfast, but have heard very good reports. We were so impressed by Fort Charlotte that we promised one another we would book in regularly, and have romantic dinners in Lerwick. Very highly recommended.

A gem. Ideally located about 20 metres from Commercal Rd, Lewrick with a variety of good restaurants and shops to visit. Hosts Ryan, Anita, Lynda and team were hospitable and welcoming and offered suggestions on restaurants and things to do. Breakfast at the guest house was excellent and a perfect way to start the day. Ryan's email orientation guide which we received.before we left Australia was very helpful and he referred us to Asif from Shetland Taxis who met us at Sumburgh airport. Ryan and Asif helped with our luggage as my mobilty was restricted. We arranged for Asif to provide a guided island tour. (I will write separate reviews for Asif, Shetland Taxis and restaurants.) As an extra bonus the BBC was filming for the Shetland series and on the following day there was a Pride parade which we could view from the windows of the breakfast room. (The rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of parade participants and friends.) We stayed in room 1 with the double bed converted to 2 good sized singles. The room comfotably accomodated 2 adults. It had a modern shower room and was spotlessly clean. I highly recommend Fort Charlotte Guest house.

My husband and I enjoyed a four-night stay at the Fort Charlotte Guest House, and we were delighted. Ryan and Anita were wonderful hosts, and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The breakfasts were delicious, with much variety offered, and the atmosphere was always friendly and welcoming from every single staff member. They offered suggestions for nearby activities and sites of interest and were so pleasant to be around. The location is ideal; the price for value is excellent; and the accommodations were comfortable and attractive. We're so glad we made this our choice for our first visit to Lerwick.
