This hotel has everything, as well as being great value for money. Slightly out of the main La Fortuna area, but close enough to enjoy a stroll to the local restaurants. The main attraction for us was the location and the wildlife. Mount Arenal is the backdrop where you can view it over breakfast, alongside all the wildlife that visit. We saw toucans, woodpeckers, red squirrels, humming and countless other birds I can't name. There is a relax/pool area too. We booked a number of tours through the hotel, and found they were cheaper than booking through the providers website. I would highly recommend doing Armandos sloth tour, and he was also on hand just after sunset to take you through the gardens and point out the frogs and lizards which we'd never have found. All in all, we've love it here. The staff were very friendly

Our first impressions of Xilopalo were not great, the entrance is up a dirt road and the hotel lobby is dark. However after a couple of days we appreciated the comfortable rooms, the bird entertainment at breakfast, the ease of booking tours, the location close to town and the sloth tour led by Arturo which was one of the best tours we did in CR. For the price Xilopalo can't be beat!

Stayed at its sister hotel the Arsenal Monara but we used its facilities. The dining area is great for bird watching while eating a good breakfast Its Acacia restaurant is a bit hit and miss. My meal was disappointing my wife’s brilliant.The service was brilliant thank you Fabian. The hotel staff are superb and excellent at sorting out tours

A truly exceptional place in La Fortuna!!! The staff was absolutely wonderful, incredibly kind, and beyond accommodating. All of their recommendations for things to do locally in La Fortuna are so thoughtful, and every single experience that we booked through Arenal Xilopalo ended up being extraordinary (we did a sloth tour and white water rafting)! The rooms were huge and clean, the pool was glorious, and the breakfast and dinner options were extraordinary. I was so sad to leave after a full 4 days here, and I will be staying here again if and when I return to Costa Rica!

Such a lovely place to stay, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. Short walk into town and close to all the amenities. The best thing about staying here is the amazing wildlife! In the morning they put out fruit for the birds by the restaurant, it's so worth spending some time sitting there and watching all the incredible birds that come to visit. Make sure you do the sloth tour with Armando! So reasonably priced, and he is so knowledgeable about all of the species you can find. We saw 9-10 sloths, snakes, iguanas and birds; later on he took us on a short night walk in the garden to find the tree frogs. Absolute expert and takes incredible photos through the scope, make sure you don't miss it!

We had the best time. Everyone from the front desk to the restaurant/bar guy. We got in and hadn't slept in over 24 hours. And they got us right to our room and we passed out. The rooms are basic and it's all you need. The AC works SO amazingly. We even shut it off the second day and never needed it back on. Go look at the sunrises and sunsets of the volcano. It's worth it.

Lovely breakfast and from your breakfast table you have a good view of the Vulcano and there are some feeding platforms offering excellent bird viewing opportunities.The new pool is very beautiful and surrounded by natural water visited by iguanas, green basilisks and tiny red frogs.

The hotel was exceptional due to the open air breakfast location and being able to watch birds while eating breakfast. The staff at reception and the restaurant were amazing. They helped with arranging an excursion for ziplining that was discounted. The rooms are a good size and beds are comfortable. Not much water pressure but it worked. Would have liked another hand towel or a washcloth. Coffeemaker, ground coffee, and refrigerator in the room was a plus. The cold pool was beautiful although a slight too cold for me to swim in.

I loved this place, it had a nice little pool, clean rooms , and I loved breakfast with the birds, also so many places too sit around at night. Armondo works there and took us on a sloth tour. He’s great! It’s very close to the town you don’t need a car to go.
