While the resort falls short on its buffet—a rather underwhelming spread given the price range comparable to other premium onsen resorts—it more than makes up for it with its impressive array of onsen baths, each designed to provide a unique and rejuvenating experience. The resort is split between the Main Building and the newer Wing Building. The Main Building exudes a more traditional atmosphere, while the Wing Building presents a contemporary take on relaxation, but both are bound together by their dedication to Ainu motifs—from the intricately designed lift doors to the towels, celebrating the indigenous culture of Hokkaido. The onsen baths are, without a doubt, the crown jewel of the resort. In the Main Building, the basement offers an extraordinary variety of baths, from the enchanting Cave Bath to the rustic Log Bath, carved from a thousand-year-old tree. The Bubble Bath delivers a gentle, soothing soak, but the Massage Bath steals the show. With water shooting from a high ceiling, targeting sore muscles in the shoulders and back, it’s a deeply therapeutic experience. On the 8th floor, the sauna is housed in a stunning dome-shaped glass structure, offering unobstructed views of the sky while you steam. However, the real spectacle lies at the basement’s open-air bath, which directly overlooks Lake Akan. The sight of the lake at dawn, with the morning mist hovering above the water, is nothing short of breathtaking. The Wing Building showcases a more modern onsen experience, headlined by its hot stone sauna. It blends traditional and contemporary design, featuring hot and cold stone rooms adorned with intricate Ainu-inspired motifs. It’s an ideal retreat for those seeking a fusion of modern wellness with cultural depth. An added touch of luxury is the availability of centennial Akan spring water, served for drinking at the onsen baths. While the buffet could use an upgrade to match the overall quality of the resort, the unmatched variety of onsen baths more than compensates. Well located in the town centre and just in front of lake. The boat dock is downstair and visible from your room. Opposite the hotel there are two convenient stores and several restaurants within easy walking distance. Car park is free. You will have a high chance to see dears near public car parking area, especially in the morning when less people get in and out. Breakfast was okay without any surprise.

Shin-Akan is obviously an old hotel. The buffet is OK. The highlight is that there is a large public outdoor swimming pool upstairs. It is mixed for men and women. You need swimsuits. The hotel has prepared them. You can wear theirs. There are swimsuits in the bathroom, or you can wear your own. The open-air hot spring is quite good. You basically take a bath in the hotel's hot spring. The bathroom is very small. In winter, Lake Akan is completely frozen. Maybe because of the weather, you can hardly see any scenery. It is more fun to play snowmobiles and snow sleds. The hotel has a very big problem, because there is a self-service grill for dinner, and many people will grill meat. The restaurant is completely open on the first floor, making the whole building full of the smell of barbecue, which is very bad.

Service is average as they only speaks Japanese. It's a shared toilet facility which is not so convenience. Have to go all the way down to 1st floor to bath in the onsen room with the mass public make me a little bit embarrasing. All facilities was quite run-down with poor maintenance. Only good things is the breakfast which is quite localised and yummy.

I booked a month in advance and noted that I wanted a room on the third floor or above, but they still arranged a room on the third floor. I asked why! Answer: It was fully booked for several months, so I was skeptical! The service is really good. They even arranged a car to take me to the station this morning. The breakfast and dinner are also very nice! The room has a private hot spring bath, as well as a stereo and CD. The overall feeling is quite good! There is a coffee machine next to the smoking room downstairs. I take a few puffs of coffee every day after brewing it, which is great!

The hotel is right in front of the sightseeing boat, which is very convenient. The sea view room was great, the view was endless. The room was quite comfortable. The air conditioner is a bit loud, so those who are sensitive to sound should wear earplugs. The air conditioner may blow onto the bed, but if you sleep with your head and feet upside down, you won't be blown by the wind.

Must stay hotel! Clean and view are fascinating. The hotel person is kind and helpful. We managed to get a great view in our room on our anniversary. Facilities are amazing, onsen is wonderful. If I can give 10 stars I will give ten stars 😂🥹❤️

The facilities are lodge-style and can't be compared to hotels, but it is the best to enjoy a solo trip slowly. The meal is sufficiently satisfactory and the hot spring is hot, but it is good. Isn't it best to be familiar with nature such as bird watching, this time the weather I couldn't do it badly, but I can enjoy the starry sky of the sky because there is no light.

Clean and most of the staff were kind. Some of them said １ people ２ people, but it's no choice. The restaurant is thin and healthy It was breakfast. Also, Chinese food was delicious. The hot springs were good, and above all, the staff at the front desk really made me feel good. I also helped you choose souvenirs. I would like to go again.
