This was the perfect place to get over our long flight. Less than an hour from the airport, as soon as we pulled up to be greeted with smiles, ice cold towels and cool fresh juice the tensions of the journey began to disappear . Our room was huge, spotlessly clean and airy with a well appointed bathroom and excellent linens. There is a lovely well maintained pool with plenty of space and beds . Meals were served in a covered pavilion overlooking the beautiful grounds and adjoining lake . The food was excellent and a great introduction to Sri Lankan cuisine . The waiters explained every dish with pride . We took a stroll around the lake to the nearby village and temple but really we just enjoyed unwinding and settling in to holiday mode . The best thing of all however were the wonderful staff who were so smilingly attentive and kind . Highly recommended for the start or end of a trip.

Beautiful hotel with beautiful grounds. I saw lots of lovely birds in the surrounding trees and wetlands area, perfect for me as a birdwatcher. The room was wonderful, very spacious with a nice view. Staff very welcoming, and couldn’t do enough for us. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Our first stop from the airport and so glad we stayed for 2 nights, an ideal haven to relax and enjoy Sri Lankan hospitality. The welcome is warm and genuine the rooms tranquil and comfortable. We enjoyed the swimming pool to relax and rest looking out over the lake as the sun set. Meals were Sri Lankan and a great introduction to the food. We enjoyed a short bike ride with a guide from the hotel and an explanation of the small vegetable garden and coconut use and even trying our hand at a sambal. We left for our tour relaxed and ready for more.

The start of our Sri Lankan experience opened with a night at the Notary’s. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. The food was delicious and so well presented with the staff explaining carefully the ingredients. The surroundings were idyllic and our meals were taken outside. The lake was active with wildlife. Our room was beautiful. Comfortable and large. A great place to stay where calm and relaxation is needed. Thoroughly recommend it.

We choose to stay for 3 days in this hotel at the end of our 3 weeks trip for its relative proximity to the airport. We were pleasantly surprised by everything. The location at the edge of a lake is great, the building is imposing with huge open air common areas. Our bedroom was equally impressive. Food wise, we probably had our best Sri Lankan food there for both breakfast and dinner. The service is excellent, pleasant and efficient. My husband enjoyed a local ride on the hotel bike. We certainly will return on our next visit .

Where to start - excellent staff, lovely room hotel and grounds and fabulous traditional food. Really enjoyed our night after flying in and then starting our tour of Sri Lanka - an excellent hotel for an initial taste of the country and to relax after flights.

My wife and I stayed in this beautiful place for 1 night, on arrival in Sri Lanka. It is close to Negombo and about an hour's drive north, from the airport at Colombo. It is a beautiful building with lovely grounds. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and we were given a very warm welcome. We ate our delicious dinner and breakfast in a covered area in the garden, serenaded by the chorus of crickets and frogs (insects kept at bay by citronella candles). Highly recommended as a first for last night stop when visiting Sri Lanka, and worth staying an extra night if you wish to explore Negombo and the coastline nearby

Fabulous tranquil spot after a long overnight flight from Heathrow. Staff very welcoming and the room was large and cool. We had a Sri Lankan meal overlooking the reservoir accompanied by the sound of birdsong. The Sri Lankan breakfast was a great start to the day (I am sure they are used to English people asking them to hold off on the hottest spices!)

A friendly welcome from all staff. Comfortable room in a beautiful colonial house with magnificent view. Breakfast excellent, especially the home made ginger jam. Would recommend highly. Lot's of birds & wildlife around. The perfect start to our Sri Lankan holiday.
