This hotel is an absolute gem and I hope it will be preserved as it is forever. My late husband and I were frequent visitors and never ever disappointed. It is set in a lovely park, close to the town centre, and a short drive away from the exhibition centre of Düsseldorf. It was opened around 1967 and has never lost its charm. The entrance lobby alone is spectacular, large and airy, and tastefully decorated with items of the town’s history. Krefeld was famous the world over for silk and velvet manufacture and the display of ties, for instance, is just beautiful. The restaurant has an old fashioned, yet elegant, French, feel to it. The outdoor terrace overlooks some wonderful old trees. The food is excellent, often adapted to reflect the season, eg German asparagus around May, June and their famous goose dishes in November. There are also beautiful, large celebration and conference rooms. Breakfasts are sumptuous. There is a separate bar, again with an old fashioned vibe, yet perfectly modern at the same time, with a small garden area at the back. The bedrooms are very comfortable and tastefully furnished. Last but not least, the staff cannot do enough for you. It really feels like home away from home when I now stay there on my own.
