The Pelican Resort was recommended to us by a travel agency. While the 2-bedroom, 2-bath suite was clean, large and even had its own individual pool, and located across the street from the beach, it was not what we were looking to reserve. It is located far from Ao Nang Beach (with lots of shopping, restaurants, bars, activities, etc.), requiring us to spend 500 Baht taxi rides to and from. Fortunately, there were 2 great restaurants located across the street from the hotel and a Seven-11 is about a block away. While the room was clean, roomy with a kitchenette, we were provided very few amenities, i.e. only 2 bath towels, a Chicklet-size soap, watery shampoo and small soap gel. We did find the hair dryer in a bedroom drawer when we were checking out. No daily cleaning was provided. The furnishings were okay for us, but cheap; even the drawers on our nightstands would not stay shut. The front desk staff was helpful and nice, but there were times they were not there when we needed something—like toilet paper. I note here we initially booked a king-side bedroom (which our travel agency said was all that was available), and when we arrived in the evening, we were told the room was not ready (giving us the impression it was being cleaned), but we could pay substantially more for the 2-bedroom suite. When we declined the suite, we were asked to wait, and ultimately, were given the suite for the original price we paid, i.e. approximately $123 USD for 2 nights (not complaining about price!).. We were given the impression by our travel agent the hotel was full, but we discovered it was practically empty and many of the rooms were in the process of renovation. The grounds and pools were impressive and beautiful. We rate our experience a “3” as we are active and not accustomed to simply stay in our hotel room which has no convenient access to shopping, some nightlife, bars, etc.. However, if the guest is there for serenity, enjoy the grounds and pool experience with two great restaurant options within walking distance, he/she probably would rate this hotel a 4 or 5.
