Koh Ngai Resort

You need to take a long tail boat ride (45 minutes) on the Andaman sea to arrive at the Koh Ngai resort. The rooms are spartan but the crews who haul your baggage and the wait staff in the restaurant are excellent. The food was a bit of a surprise as it is SO good. Try the pizza — no really it is outstanding! Or If you’ve had enough of Thai food by this point do as Jimmy Buffet recommends and enjoy a Cheeseburger in Paradise!

Awesome staff is very kind and speaks adequate English. The resort had a low occupancy while we were there. The beach front bungalows were nice with a small room and private deck area. They will only fit 2 comfortably. We stayed in the larger family room which had two queens and a third mattress they brought in so we had 4 in the room. The furniture is old and cobbled together a bit which is to be expected on a small island. The beds were rock hard. Bathrooms were okay, hot water wasn’t very hot. These are Thai style toilets so you get the little sprayer wand and cannot flush TP…pretty standard across Thailand. The restaurant was awesome, huge menu and everything was good and cheap! You have to traverse some uneven coastline…about 10 min walk to get to the main beach where the other resorts are. It was busier on that side but not by much. Also a 3-4mile trail you can hike out to the other side of the island. You can get laundry done onsite for a reasonable charge (about $1USD per item). Massage lady on site was excellent and only $10USD an hour…highly recommend. I would absolutely go back, but if you’re gonna be all huffy about hard mattresses or are generally wanting to be catered to find another hotel this is not for you.
