Safari Lodge - Amakhala Game Reserve

We had a wonderful experience in this lodge. The game drives were wonderful, we saw a lot of wild animals. A highlight was the animals that some times appear in front of our room. The room itself was spacious and beautifully designed. The staff was very forecoming and our guide Martin very knowledgable. Some things to mention: - the pool was cold; for the winter not ideal - but you get very good winter offers!! - the materess was too hard for me and we couldn't really find add-ons to make it softer - there is only an outdoor shower and a bathtub with a showerhead; great for summer, less nice for winter - food was good but not extraordinary We both would still recommend this lodge! We had amazing 4 days and have great memories!

I stayed 3 nights here and everything was great including food , accommodation and all the staff . Special shout out to Lenny our safari guide who is so knowledgeable , welcoming and has a great sense of humour . We went on two safari trips each day and sighted a huge range of animals some up very close indeed which was so exciting . We saw rhino , elephants , lions , giraffe , wat hogs , zebra and cheaters eating their zebra kill + smaller animals like antelopes and monkeys . The setting is spectacular and the drives give you a feeling of how vast the African plains are . There was heaps of food and unlimited wine included in the price . All freshly cooked and you can put in your breakfast order the night before . The accomodation at Woodbury Lodge was very comfortable with a large deck where you have great views . At times I used my binoculars to sight the animals grazing . When I was there in May they gave me a special offer which was three nights for the price of two which given all the inclusions I felt was good value . Thank you to all staff for such an enthralling and memorable stay .

We stayed at the Safari Lodge - what a once in a lifetime experience. The accommodations are amazing with great attention to detail in every aspect. The bed was awesome, the plunge pool was so great to stand in while watching the various animals come to the water hole just below our bungalow (#2). The outdoor showers were great and the sitting room was so comfortable. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed trying a variety of choices. We met Juan Van Rensburg (food and drink manager) when he took us back to PE to catch a flight and enjoyed visiting and listening to his experiences and stories about the lodge and his staff. He was a really interesting and awesome guy, Our butler extraordinaire was Bulelani. He was was simply outstanding and took such amazing care of us. Thando was also one of the staff who was a great guy and bartender. Our guides were Bradley, Justin and Martin. All were highly skilled guides and were experts in finding the animals and giving great narratives on a variety of topics. We were fortunate to have been able to see all of the major animals we had hoped to see and a lot we had not anticipated. The Safari Lodge is the most western of lodges on the game reserve so they offer a day at Addo Elephant National Park if you are spending 3 nights. We had visited Addo a few days prior so we opted to stay within Amakhala - glad we did as we saw the lions up close as well as the cheetahs for the second time in addition to the large male hippo. The Safari Lodge is definitely a must when considering where to stay and Amakhala Game Reserve. We could not have asked for a better experience - it exceeded our expectations by miles and was worth every penny

The team at amakhala safari lodge are the real stars of the show. They delivered a seamless experience for us guests, making every bit of our stay enjoyable. Special shout out to Sheldon, who greated us and looked after us at every step with an efficient attitude and friendly smile. Martin our ranger was knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful wildlife. We had massages with Mandy and they were excellent. The lodge itself is immaculate and decorated tastefully. Beddings, towels, toiletries, furniture, everything is both beautiful and lovely to use. The meals were delicious so a big thank to the kitchen team too.

We stayed for three days and went on game drives morning and evening, and on one day visited the Addo Elephant Park. The lodge is nestled in a valley and there are only 11 rooms. Animals visit the space in front all day long and there is plenty of bird life. We saw plenty of animals on the drives and had a great elephant experience when we were surrounded by them and had to wait until they had passed. Our special diet was catered for in the restaurant and there is a nice bar with books. All of the staff were so nice to deal with and nothing was any trouble - naming any would leave others out, so we are just saying they are all excellent. Highly recommended.
