Cliff at Lyons

We had pleasure of staying at this charming boutique hotel, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The standout feature of the hotel is undoubtedly its fantastic restaurant. The menu offers beauriful dishes, prepared with the freshest ingredients, and each course was fantastic. The cheese cart was especially wonderful. The ambience in the dining area was warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. There were some mistake with our order and bill but these were quickly rectified. The bar with its wood burning fire, is a cozy retreat, perfect for unwinding after a day of relaxation. We especially enjoyed the spa, the treatments are luxurious, and I highly recommend indulging in one of their signature therapies for a complete rejuvenation. One of the most unique aspects of the spa is the copper bath experience. It's a truly indulgent and memorable activity that adds a touch of opulence to your stay. The copper tubs are not only aesthetically stunning but provide an incredibly soothing experience, allowing you to completely unwind and relax. After the baths we enjoyed sorbet and herbal tea by the fire in the relaxation room. Overall, this boutique hotel excels in every area, offering a perfect blend of comfort, luxury, and exceptional service. Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat, a culinary experience, or a day of pampering, this hotel has it all. Highly recommended!

So…lots of good about Cliff at Lyons. Comfortable bed, lovely bed linen and towels, Nespresso machine and four pods, Barry’s tea, homemade biscuits, 4 bottles of water(still and sparkling) in the fridge and excellent food across The Pantry (coffee and scone) the Mill(dinner) and the Orangery(breakfast). So where could they improve the experience for the guest? It is showing signs of wear and tear and needs a bit of cleaning/power washing/painting, particularly entrance to the Orangery. There is no pool, rather all sauna, hot tub, plunge pool etc are outside and it is Ireland so is mostly raining and freezing cold. Not the most pleasant experience walking back to your room after using the hot tub etc when you are wet snd cold. Pampering, totally minus. Staff could be friendlier though they are professional and doing their jobs. Room gets very warm at night and we couldn’t cool it down without opening the window. Overall, nice but not memorable.

Cliff at Lyons is a real experience. The setting is unique, a village of comfort, time warp but with modern comforts. Each building is different within yards and gardens near channeled water. We stayed near the Lily Pond. Our bedroom was very comfortable, lovely old style furniture, a fine bathroom. The Mill Restaurant was excellent and should not be missed. Excellent breakfast in the Orangery. It is necessary to go outdoors to access facilities so take the weather into account when planning. Each building was well equipped with stock of umbrellas. Staff were excellent, very helpful and pleasant.

Very nice spot in Kildare. Quite tranquil, relaxing and lovely staff in spacious rooms. My only critique is maybe have the main restaurant child free after 7.30pm? Wasn’t nice to listen to screaming toddlers running around whilst trying to eat my dinner for the price point it’s at.

I cannot recommend the Cliff at Lyon’s more. From start to finish our stay was fabulous. The staff are amazing, the room was spacious and luxurious. The food is delicious, the spa is peaceful and the surroundings are gorgeous. We had a relaxing night away that felt like longer.

My wife and I took afternoon tea in the Cliff on Saturday last as a treat to ourselves. The price for 2 was €120. For that price I was expecting a similar experience to our previous visits to the Westbury or The Shelbourne (both 5* settings too). Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. The seats in the Mill were beside the fire which was perfect. This unfortunately was the high point. We were presented with our menus which looked very inviting. I was looking forward to trying the Orange tart and the mint macaron, but alas they did not materialize . I understand that items may not be available from time to time but you are normally advised of this at the start. Then the tea arrived out in a “staff canteen” Stainless steel tea pot to be poured into bargain basement tea cups. The sandwiches/rolls were acceptable but the fruit scones were almost all fruit and no scone. A request for a refill of the jam pot was met with two small pots of jam rather than a refill (not a big deal but attention to detail). The staff were young and very polite, however, the fire received more attention than the customers when we were there. If you are paying 5* prices, you are entitled to expect 5* service, setting and food. The Cliff at Lyon’s have failed to deliver this I’m afraid. This is a huge pity as it has put me off dining there again.
