It was our first trip to Kathmandu and we were inundated with accommodation choices spread throughout the valley. On a whim and based on gut instinct, we decided to book a stay for 3 nights at the Varnabas Museum Hotel. The word perfection doesn't even begin to describe our experience at this fantastic property. Right from the timely and comfortable airport pickup, things were unbelievably smooth and the mood for the trip was set. Upon arriving at the hotel, we were welcomed with tilaks on our forehead, like royalty. The highlight was the personal and thoughtful welcome by the chairman Mr. Rajendra Bajgain. The check-in process was quick and we soon found ourselves entering the bright and beautiful Festival suite filled with heritage furniture and a cozy ambience. In fact, as hinted by the name of the hotel, you will find yourself admiring the marvelous collection of Nepali antiques adorned in glass shelves as you make your way to your room. Throughout our stay, we dined at Kharka La (the in-house restaurant on the 8th floor) with breathtaking views and delicious food. The staff were attentive and friendly, providing ample recommendations and helping us navigate the local menu. The South Col bar, perched right above the Gokyo pool and accessible by a flight of stairs, was a welcoming space. The drinks were delicious and the bartender made good conversation. While we did arrange our day tours from an external provider, the hotel was kind enough to offer their support in helping us arrange them as well. A thoughtful gesture. The real highlight of our stay were the lovely people. I'd like to offer a shoutout to Ms. Lasata and Mr. Kritan for being helpful and attentive to us! Unfortunately, I was not able to catch the names of the other staff but I do send my best regards and appreciation. Kudos to Mr. Rajendra and his team for their utmost care and hospitality. I simply cannot wait to come back and stay at this gem of a hotel!
