We had a great time at Marafiki Bungalows, we spent 4 nights. The staff was very friendly, they knew our names, very personal approach. The food was delicious although the portions were rather large (for us). The pool is amazing, clean, large, with a beautiful view over the sea. There is a nice coffee machine and also a water kettle in the room to make your own tea and coffee. Wifi was working well. The only down side was that the aircondition in our room was not functioning well. We reported this and someone had a look, it improved but was still not giving the cooling comfort during the night we had hoped for. A ceiling fan as alternative cooling option would be great. Be aware: there is no sandy beach right in front of the hotel, but that was no issue for us. We loved to wander around when it was low tide. It is fascinating to see the tide coming in and out. The hotel organizes a shuttle to a sandy beach. Nice gesture. You can only swim in the sea right from the hotel when it is high tide. I can highly recommend staying at Marafiki Bungalows.

We were at Marafiki Bungalows on 18 - 20th Dec, checking out on 21st. I paid for accommodation in advance, and since the quote was in dollars and I was paying in TZS, I paid extra to ensure there was no shortfall due exchange rate fluctuations. On checking out I had to argue and defend this decision as the extra payment was not taken into account and the manager insisted for me to pay our bill in fulk without deducting the extra cash paid, arguing that I had not paid local taxes. Given that we were rushing to the ferry, I paid. On the way out, I recalculated and confirmed that I was overcharged. I immediately communicated that, and by the end of the day, it was concluded that I was overcharged and would be refunded. A week later, I received communication that I was not overcharged. After a new back and forth, I suggested they add up expenses and payments using Excel. For the send time, they admitted overcharging and promised a refund. As I write this, I still don't have my refund. The feedback I keep receiving is that we will remind the owner to pay you. I believe if I had underpaid, they would have hounded me for it. This a sad ending to a wonderful stay. The place is beautiful with great views. The best things about the place are the staff in the restaurant and the food is top notch.

We stayed at Marafiki Bungalows for 4 nights. We were disappointed with our original accommodation (names witheld) and we were driving around looking for alternative accommodation. Our daughter found Marafiki Bungalows online and we decided to go and see the place. We met Esther at the reception and explained our circumstances and she was amazing from the start. She gave us a very warm welcome and showed us two different size accommodation. We only had 4 days/nights left in Zanzibar and luckily they had availability for 4 nights. The place is beautiful, private and very comfortable and they had all we needed for the 4 nights. The food was amazing and very tasteful, we loved the fruit platter at every breakfast. Esther and her Colleague were amazing throughout our stay and we would highly recommend staying at Marafiki Bungalows. All the staff were also very good and had excellent customer service, and not forgetting the chef, his food was worth the wait. I stayed there with my husband and our 19 year old daughter.

Just fantastic. We lived in bungalows on the beach. A restaurant on the opposite 10 meters. Lovely food. Lovely people serving us. A topnotch place. Just recommended for everybody. With or without children. Massage with a view over the ocean.

+ Wonderful and helpful staff. Everyone was 10/10. + Cleaning everyday, the floor and beds is taken care of very well. + Beuatiful place. + Private place, no one who can disturb you from the beach since the hotel is on a cliff. + Free drinking water. And free tea + coffee in the rooms. + Very good breakfast and all the meal at the lunch/dinner menu is tasteful as well. + Fan + air-conditioning in the rooms. - No actual beach you can swim from since it's on a cliff. - There's some wood creeper in the bungalows that you can hear when they eat the wood + you can see the dust which falls from the roof. I was here with my husband, daughter 1.10 year old and my mom.

Marafiki Bungalows is a true gem with amazing value for the money! Great location on the beach with a lovely view. The hotel rooms are very spacious, and you have a small private terrace where you can relax. The garden surrounding the bungalows is very lush and beautiful, and gives a feeling of calmness. The team working at Marafiki is extremely friendly, and made us feel very welcome. We really enjoyed the food, both dinner and breakfast. The restaurant hosted a Swahili dinner with a live show on of the evenings during our stay, and it was great trying the local specialties. I can highly recommend staying at Marafiki Bungalows!

We arrived at Marafiki bungalows after a week of safari and we were in need of some rest and relaxation. Marafiki was perfect for that! We loved everything about it. The sofa on the balcony of our room was perfect for relaxing in the shade or in the evening before dinner. The room had everything we needed and was nice and spacious. The staff were amazing! The service was brilliant and they always made us feel so welcome. The breakfast was really good - fresh fruit and pastries followed by ordering off the menu (the avocado and egg on toast is excellent!), and juice, tea and coffee, all while looking out over the ocean. The dinner menu was great too and they keep it varied with daily specials. Around the pool there are plenty of beds with shade and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The only downside for us was that we only booked 3 nights. We went from there to the Lux hotel up the coast and immediately regretted that and wished we had stayed the whole 6 nights at Marafiki. Next time we will! We would definitely recommend Marafiki to anyone looking for a relaxing break in a great setting.

We came here after a safari in Tanzania with our children 8 and 10. It is absolutely perfect. We got a garden room and it was completely private. The hotel was almost full but because it is so spacious it felt like we were some of the only guests in the hotel as there are so many places to sit. We spent four nights there and wish it was more. The food was amazing and staff super helpful. I can't recommend this hotel enough. The tuna and avocado starter and prawn and lobster curry was amazing!
