Mnarani Beach Cottages

Staff here are pretty great, with a few annoying exceptions. If you ask for more than 2 eggs at the included breakfast, they'll tell you no, as per "management". We were also told to go to our rooms with fruit we bought locally and to not eat it at any tables or lounge area... ***? They also say theyll confiscate any alcohol you bring, and if they "find" any in your room it will be taken and only given back to you when you leave. There is no beach... its a rocky shoreline covered in weeds... no attempt to remove heavy weeds from shoreline/ walkways down to water. Not all rooms are in a "cottage" atmosphere... we were in more of an apartment building... The beautiful Nungwi Beach is a short walk down the road or shoreline (at low tide). Food at the restaraunt is poor quality overall and overpriced for what it is (the pizza is ok). Drinks are overpriced. Watch your bill at the end of your stay! Many discrepancies in our tab (and our friends tab) at the end of our stay (including charging us twice for one of our dinners). They will try charging you $2/day/pp as a surprise "city tax, or "resort fee" depending on who is at the counter (it's a bogus cash grab). Long story short, they initially demanded approximately $250 for our tab, and after removing bogus charges it was reduced to around $190. Too much nonsense for my liking. There were many accomodations along Nungwi Beach that I would seek to stay next time I visit Nungwi Beach.

We had a great stay for 3 nights in one of the big rooms in front of the sea, It was amazing to wake up with the sound of the waves every morning, drinking our tea on our small terrasse. The hotel is located in a very quite area, a few minutes by walk from the Nungwi beach. Margareth from the reception was very helpful and service minded.

Would recommend to have bottles of water restocked in rooms everyday not just on arrival since it’s quite a warm place. WiFi in rooms would be great if it was available throughout and fast. The internet connection was very unstable. Include bathroom slippers and shower caps in the rooms.

I have now been on this beautiful place IN Nungwi 6 times! So it is time to give my review to Mr. Nassor/Khalid and their superior staff. It is outstanding. I visite the place for fishing and relaxing, and every time Margareth, Andrew,Juma, Fatma and all other IN the staff team Are helpful and serviceminded. Second to none. Always a joy to be back. This is a real gem Of a hotel. It’s not your mainstream commercial hotel. The rooms are quirky, clean, comfortable and so homely. From the moment you walk through the gate you are so welcome like a member of the hotel family. Staff speak in first name terms and are so proud of their work. We moved here from Another large chain hotel that was really unpleasant. And we are so glad we did. Kharmis showed us our choice of rooms and was so helpful. Truly lovely and helpful man. Then we moved in. Wow. Waking up every morning looking at the beautiful ocean, the birds and then a lovely wander down to breakfast to be greeted by such friendly staff. Breakfast is nice and sets you up for the morning. Lots of fresh fruit and John makes the omelette - lovely. We were always looked after so well by zubeir and Andrew. Nothing was to much trouble. We spent time by the pool which is beautiful. Nice and warm and very very clean. Returning to our rooms they had always been cleaned to a beautiful standard. The bar / restaurant area is very tranquil And lovely to chill out in the afternoon and grab a bite to eat or a beer. The drinks are not inflated to local restaurants and much cheaper than the big hotel restaurants. It is easy to walk to restaurants and bars in the area either on the beach tide dependent or on the road. It is a slightly longer walk but it’s lovely and so nice to do to catch a sundown or walk off dinner! We booked 2 excursions from there from Mr Mahmoud both of which were great price and superb quality. And so reliable. We also used a local taxi that the hotel use - called Abra and he is great. All in all we had the best stay and very very sad to come home. About the big hotel chains and look at hotels like this as the service is exceptional.

My daughter and I went to Mnarani Beach cottages, for five days. Overall it was passable. But do not stay in the Fisherman house, Dolphin rooms, if you are a light sleeper. At 430am, every morning, a water truck arrives and water is pumped into a tank- so its 70 minutes of a horrible 12W generator sound. It was clean and the location quite good. The beach is very narrow which is great as you cannot get harassed as much by the locals, who all have an agenda. The deck and pool are lovely. The restaurant is over priced and the drinks too are rather expensive. Breakfast was a C-. You cannot pay in shillings everything is put on a tab and you have to pay an inflated rate in US$ at check out. American prices for African quality. Walking into the village is easy and safe. We walked to restaurants 35 minutes away with no drama, day and night.
