The Grand Hills

We had such a wonderful stay at Grand hills It is a beautiful hotel tucked away on the hill and away from the noisy town, surrounded by gorgeous & peaceful jungle. We had visits from monkeys and a giant squirrel right outside our room. The room itself was very clean and comfortable, with nice beds and a lovely terrace outside to sit and relax. This is a family run business, and we were welcomed so warmly and with such kindness. The hospitality was wonderful, and the home cooked meals were absolutely delicious. We truly loved everything! Thank you for the beautiful experience 🧡

The location is excellent, the rooms were very spacious and well equipped, clean and comfortable. the friendly staff made our stay very comfortable and memorable. Recommended as a must visit location in kandy. Grand hills kandy will be our first choice in future visits to Srilanka.

We are at the end of our first week here and we'll be returning for a second in about 5 days. Obviously we've had the most amazing experience which is why we're returning. The position of the hotel is absolutely stunning, right in the hills with the most magnificent views. The hotel is very welcoming, the rooms are beautiful and very clean. Our room had a balcony which overlooked the hills, mountains and the tree tops. The staff are wonderful and are there for you whatever you want. Charminda, the manager is there to greet you and be there for you, whether tips on travelling, booking of vehicles, tips on places to go etc, his knowledge of the area, culture and advice was so valuable to us. We had a couple of problems which without him would have been a real problem. We thoroughly recommend staying here and as I said we'll be returning in a few days. Recommendations don't get better than that.

The hotel is set in a beautiful location, but lets just say that there are some “hidden charges” that one should know about before deciding to stay here. Upon requesting the front desks help to arrange transportation for a wedding that I was in Kandy to attend, the receptionist said that he would look in to it, and get back to me. When I returned later that evening to see if he had any updates for me, I was told that he found someone who could take me. When I asked the receptionist to let me know how much it would be, he gave me what I believe to be a fabricated story about how he had instructed the driver to let the guest pay him whatever the guest felt was fair, seeing as the wedding was at the hotel next door, which was only 550 meters away. He then added that the driver had not agreed to that arrangement, & that the driver would tell the guest how much the fare was after arriving. Upon arriving to the wedding hotel, the driver asked that I pay 2,500 rupees, which was more than 4.5 times more than what apps like PickMe quoted for the same trip. Due to this reason, let this serve as fair warning that if you plan to stay at this maggot infested hotel that I too can attest to as other reviews have mentioned, remember to factor in my insights. My experiences align with why staff told me that I was the only guest that they had during my entire stay, & why the one other foreigner who had made reservations during the same time frame, was a no show in the end. According to locals, 1,500 of the 2,500 probably went to the driver & the owner of the car, & the remaining 1,000 most likely went to the receptionists pocket.

The worst experience in our 3weeks tour. They didn't want to check in us because they are full, but we had reservation. After a long discuss we got a room which is not clean and there were insects, geccos and cockroaches. They asked prepayment so we didn't received the amount when we checked out earlier when we planned. There weren't hospitality there wasn't clean, it is humiliaton of sri lanka and its hospitality.

The hotel is situated up the mountains and our room has a balcony overlooking the beautiful mountain scenery of Kandy. It's only 20 minutes away from the town proper and is a perfect getaway from a buzzing city. No mosquitoes at all in the room which is a plus 🌟 James is a star hotel manager! Cons: The mattress was not the best and we had thin covers to use for the night. The cold didn't bother us but I would recommend asking for another cover if you are easily cold. Bring your own face towels and toothbrush/ toothpaste - we bought ours from the city. Unsure if the hotel will provide this if asked. The sign going to the hotel is a bit high-up for drivers to see. Menu prices are in dollars for easy reference. The spa is not in the hotel and they can arrange this for you. I would recommend installing PickMe app to book tuktuks and taxis instead of asking the hotel for arrangements. It is a steep road to the hotel so we always booked taxis going back to the hotel. Overall recommended if you would not or rather not go to the city during your stay in Kandy 🌟
