Ideal Beach Resort

I had an opportunity to stay at the Ideal Beach Resort & Convention Center at Mahabalipuram in Jan. 2025 while I traveled in India. The service, facilities, food, and staff (and the ocean next-door of course) were outstanding. Also, I want to take a chance to thank Sathish Kumar and his team who helped me to reach my next destination. Because my flight was canceled, they worked non-stopped (at very late hours) to arrange a taxi for me to take me to the Ayurvedic Medical center. It was about a 10-hour journey, which seemed very fast and smooth. Because of this extra effort I didn’t miss any of my treatments. That is the kind of service you can expect from Ideal Beach Resort. Amazing property located at the beach. Fantastic atmosphere, you can sit till late and watch the waves. Exllent food, very friendly staff ( very kind life guard on the beach, very helpful staff in the reception), all rooms facing beach. There is as well a huge swimming pools and u can enjoy relaxing massages.

Terrible place to stay. Not recommended at all. Old rooms. AC stopped working. Fans don't work. Bathrooms got clogged with water and the drain had to be changed. The whole place stinks of urine smell. Staff not well trained. The infrastructure is not maintained properly.

Our stay at Ideal beach (25th May 2024) offered a mix of both delightful and disappointing experiences. On the positive side, the buggy drive around the property was enjoyable. The breakfast served was hearty and fulfilling, featuring a great variety of well-prepared dishes, including South Indian and Continental. Additionally, the room service was excellent, with prompt and courteous responses to all our requests. Our rooms had a beautiful partial-beach view. However, several aspects of the room facilities did not meet expectations. The bathroom was inadequately lighted with no proper ventilation, save for a small dirty window covered with wire mesh that barely sufficed.The room air conditioning unit was old and lacked the potency to adequately cool the room, which was highly uncomfortable in warm weather. One of our rooms were not properly clean as we found clumps of hair under the dressing table and we also had stained bedsheets. Furthermore, the television was too small for the size of the room, which detracted from the overall enjoyment of watching. Another significant drawback was the WiFi connectivity, which suffered from frequent drops, making it difficult to stay connected to the internet. While parts of the stay were enjoyable, the room's comfort and technology amenities made our stay discomforting. Ideal beach resort can boast beautiful landscaped gardens and pools, but careless attitude to room facilities downgrades the overall stay experience.

I can’t believe that more people haven’t found this gem of resort just 50 mins out of Chennai. This 1970s style Ideal beach resort hotel, offers a stunning beach view and the best ever cooling breeze beneath the big permanent umbrellas with great beach side drinks service. You can literally look at the view, the goings on or read a book for hours without moving, the breeze just makes it perfect. Don’t let the retro look put you off, the staff are wonderful and the chefs are amazing. We choose to eat vegetarian whilst there and both the veg kebabs were excellent as were the dried cauliflower and dried potato dishes. This restaurant though has many talents we also tried noodle dishes and freshly made spring roles at dinner and beautiful kiwi or mango muffins and banana cake for breakfast ***** with superb normal Indian cuisine. This venue is used for conferences and there was one on whilst we were there, it didn’t cause us any issues in fact it enhanced my experience as I enjoy people watching and it was great to hear the enthusiasm for their team building exercises. Just a 350 rupee taxi ride into town to see the 7th Century stone temples, Krishnas butterball and the Arjuna’s Penance carving. If you need a couple of nights chill away from the hassle and bustle of life and are happy to have some space, check it out, it really is Ideal and good value for money. A very special thank you to the young Nepalese lady who welcomed us to our meals and kindly phoned me of a morning to ensure our jet lag meant we didn’t miss breakfast so polite and a smile that made us feel very welcome.

The resort is clean and well maintained overall. The upkeep is very good. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The room type we booked was not available in the ground floor and my mom can't climb stairs. We were upgraded to a better room on the ground floor for no additional charge. The staff were also hospitable and accommodating to all our requests. Access to the beach is excellent. The beach is also quite clean. We will definitely come back here.
