Raas Jodhpur

RAAS Jodhpur is an amazing place with amazing staff and equally amazing views. Food was great. I have no complaints. I have suggestions, that they can work on there breakfast menu a bit. Thats my personal opinions. For fellow travelers watch out for different taxes that get applied on food and drinks.

If you want to pay to be on the hotel’s maintenance team then definitely stay at the Raas Jodhpur. In our 60 hours with them all we did was suffer problems and work with the team to attempt to get them fixed. People were constantly in and out even past 10 PM at night when all we wanted was to rest. The general manager - Ashwin K - then had the audacity to imply we don’t know how to use the shower properly which is why we ended up taking cold showers. Issues include no hot water, Ac remote not working so couldn’t adjust temp, kitchenette Sink leaked water all over galley, Toilet clogged, No WiFi in kids room so couldn’t watch movies or message friends, Bedside plug only works if lights on so could either charge phone or sleep properly, Attacked by squirrel who jumped on husband, all “complimentary” snacks are stale making you wonder how long they have been there, didn’t clear out used water bottles, etc. Yes they tried to fix some of them but these basic things should not happen at a 5 star hotel of this caliber. Guests should be enjoying - not dealing with maintenance issues. At the end they added insult to injury by offering 20% off one meal and a free airport transfer (worth less than USD 20). When paying thousands of dollars for a 5-star experience, it’s embarrassing when they defend themselves, imply we don’t know how to turn on the hot water and offer about $USD 60 as a concession. I would strong suggest you consider other better hotel options in Jodhpur which are less noisy and offer value for money. The Raas is not the place to be.

So we arrived through some narrow streets with an interesting drive to a very warm welcome. After check in complete, we were taken to our first floor room which was gorgeous and spotlessly clean and had everything we need. The the host pulled back the shutters and that view of the Fort was our first wow! Such a stunning view. We enjoyed the swimming pool, got changed for the evening and went to the rooftop bar for drinks. Waiting for the sun to go down and enjoying the views and suddenly the Fort lights up -wow number 2! We have travelled the world (this is our 97 country) and we both just were in awe of the view and rapidly agreed it was one of the best we've ever had for sundowners! The staff here are amazing, the food is excellent, the accommodation truly sumptuous and the location is perfect. Definitely one of our highlights of India. We would love to go back.

The RAAS Jodhpur is a lovely property and the staff make it even better. We arrived at 2pm and were greeted by the staff and given a welcome drink of juice while the check-in formalities were completed. There are two sections to the hotel. One is in the historic part of the property. Our deluxe room was in the modern addition and came with a great king bed, sofa and oversized bathroom with separate tub and shower. Shortly after arriving I needed to pick up a few things in town. They sent a boy with me to find what I needed. When the first shop didn’t have what I wanted, they got me a Tuk Tuk and instructed the driver to take me to four shops until I could get what I needed. It worked perfectly. We ate five meals here in three days. Lunch in the downstairs restaurant was good and we had a nice pesto and mushroom pizza. Both nights we ate upstairs on the terrace. The first night we had Lamb Maas, a Rajasthan speciality. They offer a nice selection of ice creams. We lingered over dessert and talked with a lovely British couple from Gloucestershire. The second night we had Jodhpuri Chicken Curry and Lamb Biryani. Dessert was a lovely warm carrot pudding, Gajar Ka Halwa. Both nights our server was Pratahad, and he was charming and efficient and helped with menu selections and wine choices. We tried wine from India’s Sula Vineyards and both the red and the white were drinkable, albeit nothing special. Breakfasts downstairs were good with both a buffet and a menu with eggs, pancakes and French toast to order. We enjoyed the included lattes as well. Definitely get a sunset cocktail in the rooftop bar. They have a large cocktail selection (and they even use filtered water for the ice so no worries about waterborne diseases). But the view from the roof is to die for. Our housekeeper, Gumar, was efficient and helpful, offering nightly turn down service. We did a small amount of laundry and found it noticeably cheaper than in Jaipur. And Gumar brought the luggage to the lobby at departure. Overall we give the hotel high marks. It’s in the heart of the old city. If you have never driven in India, driving Jodhpur’s narrow lanes is not for the faint of heart and should not be your introduction to driving in the subcontinent.

If you find in Jodhpur and you don’t visit the rooftop restaurant at the RAAS Jodhpur then you are making a big mistake. And Prahalad MUST be your server. I don’t know what drives him to be so committed to your happiness. He can’t accept a gratuity beyond the 10 percent service charge. But he is obsessed with your happiness. Do you want something not on the menu? No problem. Do you want something prepared differently? No problem. Yes is always the answer. And the food preparation matches the service. I had four meals here and each was better than the last. Truly exceptional!

We recently spent 2nights at this stunning hotel and would highly recommend it. Its location beneath the Merhrangarh Fort is perfect and the rooftop bar overlooking the Fort lit up at night is so romantic. We stayed in a suite with balcony which had a direct view of the Fort- stunning! The room was chic and facilities very clean and well maintained. We ate both nights at Darikana restaurant as the food was so good! The head waiter and all the restaurant and bar staff were very attentive and friendly. Breakfast at the Baridari is another wonderful experience. I also had the best head neck and shoulder massage that I’ve ever had at the spa by the lovely Mamata- she is the best! Every staff member with no exception went above and beyond and are a credit to the hotel.
