MISS MAY HOTEL

The property is very close to one of the entrances into the old town, so it was very easy to alight the car and just walk over, as cars are not allowed in the old town. First impression of the property was great, as there was a very well maintained garden filled with flowering plants, right when you entered the doors. Eric and Joyce, the friendly and warm owners of this lovely place, were there to greet us too! Fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, it was a breeze chatting and learning more about Shaxi from the two of them! This is especially convenient for tourists who are from SG, MY, who may prefer to communicate in English or Cantonese! Rooms were very clean and heaters were available. There is no air conditioning, but frankly, you will not require that at all! The main street of the old town is just a casual walk away, perhaps just 5 mins from the property. But along the way, you would certainly stop by many spots to have pictures taken as the entire place is so scenic! The houses, the vibes, the courtyards etc, everywhere you turn and look, it's just beautiful. There is no lack of places to dine at, once you are at the old town, so despite the fact that the property does not include food, you will never go hungry. All in all, it was a great experience and we would highly recommend anyone who visits Shaxi to stay over at this awesome property!

The inn is within the old town where cars can’t enter. The owner came out specially to receive us from the car and helped with our luggage. It was a short walk and his wife was standing at the entrance waiting to receive us. The couple then helped carry the luggage up the stairs and brought us to our unit. It was so clean. They were so thoughtful to turn on the heater in the room before we arrived. The bed has electric blanket. There were tea and slippers too. There is also a shared space to hang out at, with toys available for kids to play with, very family friendly!

Lovely place that is very close to the central market and main pedestrian area. The proprietors are delightful hosts who make sure you have everything you need. They went out of their way to book us a driver to Tiger Leaping Gorge, saving us a lot of time and effort and money. Those not used to extremely firm beds should mention this upon checking in—the beds are very stiff and essentially planks with an inch of padding. Rooms are very clean and cozy.

I was really looking forward to this stay as I’d heard great things about this couple, and it did not disappoint. The property and room was very quaint. Miss May and her husband were absolutely lovely and so kind. The heated pad in the bed and heated toilet seat were a wonderful addition and made the environment even more comfortable.

A short walk from the north gate, Miss May has a beautiful courtyard and the room is tastefully furnished and decorated. Eric and Joyce are very friendly and helpful. They provided us a hand-drawn map to navigate the Shaxi old town and recommended food options. They gladly helped us arrange transportation for our journey to Lijiang on the next day, although we made our request quite late in the evening. Thanks for your hospitality and kindness!

Everything said by others are true and correct. Flowers full bloom and many other tourists keep taking pictures of the blooming flowers.  Shaxi is one of best old ancient town. Not too over commercialised. Still have the rustic ancient feeling. Unfortunately we just stayed for one day. Can easily stay three nights!
