Occidental Jandía Mar

If you want a nice getaway, then I would definitely recommend Fuerteventura. The Occidental Jandía Mar was the nicest hotel we saw along the route. Rooms are nice and comfortable, albeit a little old fashioned. Restaurant is amazing with a huge range of food on offer. Coffee machines are hit and miss. Sometimes not working or out of a key ingredient. Milk, coffee etc. The hotel is close enough to the beach to walk, and a short taxi ride from the harbour which will cost about €10. There is daily and evening entertainment for both kids and adults. Two large main pools, the upper one slightly heated the other not. Water is salt water in both pools. There is a toddler splash area and a small water park with a few slides for the older children. Animation team are okay, but only really saw Isabella interacting with the guests. She is friendly and a good laugh.

Reading previous reviews I was slightly worried, however I honestly don't know why the bad reviews are there. We had a Fantastic time and can't wait to come back. Our room was a deluxe suite and honestly the photos they use online don't do it justice, it was amazing. We had beautiful views of the sea and the pool area. The only thing I would say about these rooms are they are right by the entertainment stage so it was loud until about 11pm every night but for us this wasn't a issue. Food was good, a good selection most nights, I will however say that the food wasn't the hottest unless you had it straight out of the oven or new dish. Breakfast was often cold but I mainly had the cold buffet anyway. There's so much to do for the kids there including the water park, the splash pads , the pools and a park. The kids disco was great for them, went for a good amount of time with different songs and dances. The barcy aqua park was great, the only thing they could improve on is the selection of all inclusive drinks that they offer over there as it was only beer or soft drinks.The staff were fantastic when my daughter had a bang to the head on one of the slides, we were taken to the on site Dr who took great care of her. We had such a amazing time and can't wait to return, don't let the bad reviews put you off!

It’s ok… I think that’s mine and my husband’s feelings on this resort. Let’s start with the positives — it’s in a lovely location, close to the beach and shops and with the bus service that runs every morning (10am & 11am, from outside the hotel reception) it feels really convenient! There’s the water park across from the main building of the hotel, although it is a little lacklustre; my niece (and husband) enjoyed the slides and the splash park gave a small bit of entertainment to her. We always managed to get a sun lounger! Albeit at the ‘smaller’ salt water pool and never in the shade, we were just pleased that we were able to get three every single day of our stay, even when we turned up ‘late’. My niece (11) enjoyed the ‘mini disco’ every night and we enjoyed most of the entertainment during the evenings. The people who did the disco were all fantastic with the kids and even with a language barrier sometimes, they did a wonderful job. The entertainment was a little lacklustre and mediocre on some nights but we throughly enjoyed Malabo Impacto — my husband got pulled onto the stage as well and he found that hilarious. The chap who ran the movie quiz was great! His energy and way he engaged the crowd was fantastic! Hats off to him. We liked that there were different vendors that came to display their goods during the evening, outside the buffet hall. Although they were often quite expensive compared to the stalls and shops in town, it was a nice addition if you weren’t leaving the resort and we did purchase a couple items from different people. Now let’s dive into the not ‘not so good’ bits… the food, my god. We stayed for seven nights and by the end, I don’t think I have ever craved nutrients and vegetables more than I did!!!! Everything was a little lacklustre; not enough flavour or seasoning across the board and everything just seemed lukewarm — by the time you got to your table, your plate would be near cold and that’s very off-putting. I had clams one night and it was 99% just shells and no actual clams. The clams I did manage to eat were tasty but cold, sadly. Breakfast was our favourite meal, mainly for how good the hashbrowns were but again, everything else was pretty cold. The room — the door to the balcony was so temperamental and most times, my husband had to use two hands and all his body weight to yank it open! The balcony was lovely but our room was classed as a sea view… in all fairness, we could see the sea but the majority was of the view was overlooking our hotel and the Occidental Jandia Playa… The beds were comfortable but so frustrating, as the double bed was two singles pushed together and they kept separating, meaning my husband and I couldn’t actual lie together without one of us slipping into the crack and onto the floor!! I also understand that it is a warm climate but the lack of an actual duvet was evident! Even when it’s warm there is nothing better than slipping into a cosy & comfy bed, instead you’

There was a few issues on arrival but staff quickly sorted everything out. It is our third year visiting the same hotel as we love the food, cleanliness, most staff members are friendly and kind. Special mention to Vanessa at the theatre bar as she is always welcoming and remembers us every year. Mamaru the chef by the pool bar is so friendly and welcoming. The staff at the private dinning restaurant are so lovely and always helpful when requests are made, special mention to Dani for your friendliness and helping with the food for the baby. This will not be the last time ☺️

Bad experience with the restaurant staff. We had paid for all inclusive plus and waiters didn't even bother to bring us water to the table. I have a gluten-free diet and I was told that I can order gluten-free bread the day before at the reception. So I arranged for bread at the reception and when I asked the staff at the restaurant the next day for bread according to the order, no one bothered to deliver it despite repeated urges. In the end I had to solve the situation through the reception. Otherwise, the hotel is clean, the rooms are nice. The food was ok, I missed a larger selection of fruit, which was sometimes rotten. Very often glasses and cups for coffee were missing.

This was a last minute deal ( we booked it a week before we arrived at the hotel) . The reception was efficient and the staff friendly. Our room was cleaned every day with clean towels and the balcony was huge . The food although pretty much the same was alternated and was very tasty . The fish was exceptional , although the food was lukewarm there was a microwave to heat it up . The staff on hand at meal times were very helpful and the people serving the food delivered it with a smile . There was a warm pool and a cold pool we chose the cold pool not half as many children lol . The animation team worked very hard to please the children . If you have children this is the hotel for you , if like us you are old lol and don't mind kids it's well worth a stay , we really enjoyed this hotel and because it was in November there wasn't a lot of children . We have a policy of not going to the same resort twice so we wouldn't come again . While we was there my wife's chain broke and she lost her pendant. This is a long shot but I have put pics of the matching earrings on here , if anyone found the pendant please could they let me know the pendant has emotional tie's .
