Brown Street Inn Bed and Breakfast

Charming home in a lovely neighborhood. Nice ambiance. Quiet and at the same time relaxing. Nice restaurants and shops. Very walkable. We hope to visit again and see more of Iowa City. The hosts were great. Fun to talk to but not at all intrusive.

Be aware that the Brown Street Inn requires that you have the Covid vaccine and be fully boosted. They cancelled our reservation when they found out we didn't meet their vaccine requirements, even though at the time we made the reservation there was no mention of vaccine requirements. Then, when we contacted them, they placed the blame on the third party who booked us. So we had the booking for several weeks before we were cancelled, and it was hard for us to find another hotel at that later date as it is a football game weekend. Whatever you may think of this requirement in 2023, people need to know about it before booking this place. The Brown Street Inn's Covid policy is not easy to find. They don't have it spelled out clearly on their main pages, but you can find it on a link at the bottom of the page. To find it, scroll down to the very bottom of the webpage until you see Quick Links. Under Quick Links, go to 'policies'. Here is what it says under policies: COVID-19 "At this time, we are requiring all guests to be vaccinated and have received all CDC recommended boosters. This allows us to make masking optional in common areas of the Inn. If we are unable to determine that guests are vaccinated when they arrive, we will be unable to honor their reservation."

The host and hostess were wonderful! The breakfast was amazing! The bed and room overall were super clean and comfortable! I couldn't imagine a better stay. We're grateful to have such a wonderful experience.

This 110-year-old mansion has been adapted well to serve as a B&B while maintaining its original character. Actually, the neighborhood surely looks much as it did in 1913, right down to the brick street. We’d suggest spending some relaxing time on the front porch, maybe with your morning coffee. If you are lucky, you might be joined by Christine and Doug who are gracious and helpful hosts who will make sure your stay is all you expect it to be. Accommodations are clean and comfortable, tastefully decorated. The location is convenient for whatever may interest you in Iowa City. The Browne Street Inn is a gem in Iowa City.

We had a comfortable and enjoyable stay in the Green Room. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. It is a lovely place to stay near campus in a quiet historic neighborhood. Friendly and welcoming hosts. We'll be back.

We stayed in the yellow room, which was lovely and comfortable, if a bit tight with all of our suitcases and bags. The bed was comfortable. The new owners are very nice and personable. The only red mark against them is the breakfast served. There is no longer a hot meal. I look forward to a hot meal whenever I stay at a Bed and Breakfast. It is expected. The first day we had fresh fruit with homemade yogurt and granola. There were some breads you could toast and juices and of course coffee or tea. The second morning we didn’t even get fresh fruit. The baked goods that were offered were dry, gluten free things that were inedible. It was such a disappointment. I don’t know now f we’ll be back. We don’t go to Iowa City often.
