Seated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the 25 acre farm is home to many domestic, farm and wild animals. The lush green rolling pastures offer exquisite views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and direct access to the James River. It truly is a serene private paradise.Our focus at the farm is two-fold. Promote agro-ecotourism and support our sister non-profit, Gentle Moon Conservancy. The mission of Gentle Moon is to provide lifetime care and shelter for animals in-need and inspire environmental stewardship through the power of individual action.We are a working farm and have livestock guardian dogs who free roam guarding the farm. River, Ben, Daisy and PB are very friendly and will likely greet you when you first get here. They work at night so don’t be surprised if you hear them sounding off in the shadows protecting the farm from critters.Safety and privacy is very important to us. Most of the animals on the farm roam free so you'll be greeted by a few Great Pyrenees (livestock guardian dogs), goats, geese, chickens, turkeys and peacocks. We also have barn cats that like to keep our guests company outside of the tiny house. Please be mindful of this if your dog is uncomfortable with other dogs and animals. Please don't bring your dog/s if they are high-strung, overly sensitive, aggressive, or not trained. Nestled in the serene countryside, our property is just a mile away from the charming historic downtown of Scottsville, and a short 25-minute drive to Charlottesville, Monticello, UVA, and many award winning wineries and breweries.Experience the ultimate outdoor adventure by indulging in a plethora of activities, including catch and release fishing in our stocked pond, tubing in the river, or exploring the one-mile biking and walking trails. The building itself is perched on the highest point of the farm and features an exclusive, private 1200 square ft space with breathtaking views of the James River. The space boasts two spacious bedrooms with plush, brand new Casper queen mattresses, a full bathroom, a fully-equipped kitchen, an adjacent dining area with a bar sitting area, and a cozy living room with two couches, one of which converts to a comfortable queen bed. The living room also has an electric fireplace, a TV, and a game area for the kids, complete with board games.Step outside to our dedicated backyard area with patio furniture and a fire pit, perfect for unwinding and soaking up the stunning views. For your convenience, a brand new washing machine and steam dryer are located in the kitchen area, and complimentary coffee, tea, and snacks are provided upon check-in.At Riverview at Belle Meade Farm, you'll have the opportunity to interact with many friendly animals, including our three friendly dogs, cats, and other animals as well. Our friendly dogs, Abby, Lucy, and Sweetie, love attention from children and adults alike. The cats are always happy to greet guests, and the white cat named "Angel" is a favorite and loves to lounge around in the driveway. We kindly request that you don't bring your own pets, as we have plenty to keep you company.Explore the property at your leisure and indulge in petting our animals, but please ensure that children are always supervised. Our personal house is just a couple of hundred feet away, and while we may be working around the farm, we'll respect your privacy. You'll have the entire second floor of the building to yourselves with a private entrance however, you will have to walk up a flight of stairs to access this area. The first floor consists of an office/storage area and a long-term rental unit where our farm caregiver resides named Jon. He has become a great friend of our family and is always happy to help out with farm tasks and helps take care of the animals. He is very helpful and if you see him outside around the farm he can help introduce you to some of the animals if you would like!Enjoy over one mile of gravel road by taking a hike or bike ride through the rolling hills or stroll along the driveway or woods, but please don't venture past the two barns as it's a private residence. You can also walk, bike, or drive down the gravel road to our private river entrance, or follow the marked pond trail to access our beautiful pond.At Riverview at Belle Meade Farm, we're committed to ecological sustainability and have honey bee hives on the property (at a safe distance from your living quarters) to support the health of our crops. Our property is located in the first bee city in the State of Virginia!
